Scientists say that a star goes super nova in our galaxy roughly every 26 years. They can see how many have gone super nova by the remnants left. They have counted the past super novas and have found there have been approximately 250 in the life of our galaxy. 26 years x 250 = 6,500 years - This is the approximate age of the Earth as written in the Bible.

I know it's not February until tomorrow but I thought while I think of it I could start this new monthly thread.

There are a lot of things on this board that Yuku simply don't supply.  I love that we can choose a specific colour for post titles to make them stick out.  I also like that we can have reputation/karma/blessings or whatever else we want to call them.

All three of my girls have left out early today.  Sarah out with her fella Martyn and the other two have early shifts at work.  So I am on my own for the rest of the day to have my tele up loud and even sing and dance if I want to.

And a very early good morning on this 1st day of Feb here in the land down under Smile

I fell asleep early last night so I'm up at silly o'clock again lol. Then as I put the kettle on I thought "oh Sandy might be playing on the comp" so I started my computer up and here I am.

And you weren't wrong because I was playing on the comp.

I had a reasonable night last night. I only woke up twice because of my stupid bladder instead of the usual 4 or 5 times. And then instead of staying up on my last visit to the loo at 6 am I went back to bed and fell asleep again until 9 am.

I'm going to have another go today at trying to figure out the stupid css here. I'm sure once we figure it out it's going to be a piece of cake.

Feeling too tired tonight after coming back from dinner with Catherine and Dan to do much in regards to css or anything else.

It's very humid here tonight and I might just try and have an earlier night lol.

For the first time in months I slept 7 hours straight last night. No waking to go to wee or anything. I can't believe it.

I must tidy up my pigsty of a room today. You wouldn't believe the mess it's in. Very teenageree. Had to make that word up as I couldn't think of a better one.

Good morning. Very windy here and supposed to get even worse.

Figuring out how to get back out of topics on here at the moment without going around the houses. My addled brain will work it out shortly.

Morning ladies Smile. 5 mins to 12 so I can still say "morning", heehehe.

Saturdays I try to be up early and just toss on my clothes from Friday and pop over to the grocery. That way I can get that out of the way before the mobs come. It is a total zoo over there any time after 9. They open at 7 but I prefer to wait till 7:30 or 8 as if you are too early the shelves are not all filled yet. That is one of the things that annoys me here (but it's just a small thing). At home shelves are stocked in the night by another crew. Here they do it all day long and you have to navigate around them. Mostly it is easier if I shop during the week but it never fails that I need something on Saturday, so I just go early.

Have a lovely day y'all Smile.

Welcome Wendy,

Piddly day here again.  Mind you we can't really complain because we haven't really had a lot of rain so far this winter.  Well, not down my end of the country anyway.

Ok, I've had a bit of activity today.  Now time for tea and a rest.

PostSubject: Good Morning from Wendy   04/02/17, 12:27 pm

Hi Wendy Smile
It is not real school. Just since I lost my job I have to get a little money from the state. Jue is retired now but that is not so much. So the difference they "give" us. But that means they own me lolol. So generally they stick you in a program to get you "ready" to go back in the job force. As if I need instructions to write a job app after working for 40 years, lolol. Oh well. It is their way to take you off the statistics and look like you have a job. Poverty industry Jue and I call it. Anyway, I am stuck there till April. In July I can get my retirement from the States which is another reason it is silly to "retrain" me. The funniest part of it is...they don't train anything at all. Basically I go there 5 hours a day and sit in front of a computer. I can learn the free programs they have like Gimp and Blender etc. But I already have Photo Shop and other things at home from back when I had money lol. So generally I just read the news while I am there or do "Duolingo" to help my crappy German LOL.

The only reason I am up early on Saturdays now is because I have to be for that "school" during the week. So my body wakes up automatically. When I was not there I would go shopping on the weekdays that I knew most people did not, like Tuesday or Wednesday. If I could do as I wished I would be up late every night and sleep late too.

Looks like I will have to go to the consulate to apply also. As when I try to look at the stuff online for applying it wants my US address, lol. I could give it one but I don't live there so guess I'll need to haul my butt in to the offices in April.

For the dogs. I don't mind if people adopt or go to a breeder. I adopt because I am poor. I would like a Samoyed or Malamute next time I get a dog and if you go to a breeder that can be over three thousand dollars. I'm a little weird I guess. I don't care if they have papers or anything like that. I just want a certain "look". That is one reason I prefer one that is already a year old or so as I will know what it will look like.

One day at my school I had Malamutes on my screen and this woman in the class asked if I had them. So we started talking about them and I mentioned I got them from a rescue in Spain. LOL. She went off about how one should only rescue them from Germany cause they have enough to be rescued here. I thought jeez...I don't mind if that is her opinion, but she said it like it should be a fact, hahaha. I would adopt them from here if I found one I wanted.

My brother is going through a similar thing re money at the moment. He doesn't drive and is almost at retirement age but they make him travel silly distances to sit at a computer for hours when it's quite obvious nobody would employ him at his age even if he was a computer whiz which he definitely isn't.

That's a sad story about the dogs. I had a similar problem with two females many years ago. They'd lived with us together for over six years and been fine but when my old alpha male died World War III broke out in the house. Females don't just skirmish like most males, they're out to kill each other. It was scary and we could never relax around them after that. Luckily we had the facilities to separate them on a permanent basis. It would have broken my heart to part with either of them after so long. Both eventually died of old age I'm happy to say and enjoyed a good life with a male companion each too.

Common sense is like an ancient thing Sandy that most Government departments don't have.

The new dog Catherine is getting is a puppy and other then that I have no idea what type but she said it would fit in with the one she has already. Oh and I had it wrong it's not from the rescue center!

My back is killing me after today's effort so won't be sitting at my computer for too long tonight.

I've never cared about papers for dogs either. Although both my Katie was, and Louie is, Kennel Club registered. Bayley never was because his Dad's papers were lost when the Dad's original owner died. The woman I bought Bayley from owned the Mother and took the Dad in when the old boy died. I saw both parents and had the choice of the puppies. She also sold the puppies half price because of the lack of papers. You could see at a glance that the Dad was a pure bred though. The price of pure bred dogs now is ridiculous.

People do get very agressive sometimes if you don't agree with them regarding getting a dog. A dog that needs a home in Germany is no different to a dog that needs a home from spain. Some people really looked down on and argued with me because I wouldn't get a rescue dog when I had decided to get another dog after losing Bayley.

How very strange that they want an American address when you have moved to Germany permanently.

This is also the thing Wendy with raising the retirement age. If one loses ones job after a certain age, no one is going to employ them in a decent job again anyway. It will just be that instead of collecting a pension, one will just have to claim unemployment or disability. People may be living longer but after a certain age they aren't any healthier. The reason we are living longer is because of health care and such big strides in medicine. Not because our bodies are taking longer to age. One still gets the diseases and the aches and pains of old age.

You really are going to have to slow down Martha for your back to heal.

I've had a real mix of pedigree dogs with and without papers, crossbreeds and proper mongrels. Some were rescue dogs and others weren't. It's a personal choice and sometimes just the right dog appearing at the right time. The only no-no for me would be a puppy farm or someone I suspected acquired their dogs from one.

I simply can't understand why puppy farms haven't been made illegal. It's disgusting in this day and age that they aren't a criminal offence which carry a prison sentence or at least a heavy fine. This is why one should insist on seeing the parents, or at least the Mother interacting with the puppies. Just seeing a pen of puppies in someone's living room isn't proof that those puppies have been humanly bred.

Puppy farms pay money to ordinary people to have a pen of puppies in their home. When you go to those homes you have no idea that they are bred somewhere else in puppy farm. Also alot of those puppies are not even born in this country. They are put in crates and shipped over here when they are ready for sale.

There is no come back for puppy farms because even if you suspected someone of selling farmed puppies there is no one to report it to. The RSPCA can't do anything because they will only be investigating a home where there are well fed and clean puppies and you can't report it to the police because they don't have the authority to trace the puppies back to any puppy farm.

It needs a law whereby if we suspect something out of order we can report it to the police and they are allow to go and ask questions and trace the puppies back to the farm. If there was a law with a heavy sentence for selling farmed puppies, it would stop a lot of people taking money for selling them from their home and then hopefully close down puppy farms altogether.

Hi all Smile

Yeah I am not a fan of "puppy mills" either. When I search online for dogs at breeders I check the refs etc. One of the ways to get a purebred without such a big cost is also at a breeder. Sometimes they sell the adults. Most of the time they are older though, but not always. I partly want another Malamute but lately have been leaning more to a Samoyed. But they are rarely ever at a rescue. They are just gorgeous and also are not as much trouble as Mals are so I expect people keep them. I am happy if they keep their dogs and take care of them, but it does limit the ones that are adoptable.

The American address is needed for the online form Sandy. I am allowed to retire here, but often I have problems with online forms from the States if they need my address or phone. Maybe one day that will be corrected I dunno. Prob not while the orangutan is in office though. But hopefully it won't be a huge hassle at the Consulate. It is a royal pain to go there though. You cannot bring in your phone or any other electronics. And you wait outside in a big line, and they close early. I've only gone for passport renewal before, it was not too bad as I had all my stuff but it still took some time waiting in different places.

I have been lucky here in regards to having to go to the Consulate in all the years I've been here, but that has changed now as the Dutch passports now have finger prints in them and the Consulate here in Western Australia does not have the finger printing machine. This means that all Dutch citizens have to fly to Sydney to get their passport!
So instead of paying for the passport and then the immigration visa sticker; one now has to pay for a return flight and at least 1 to 2 nights accommodation in Sydney.

The weather is dull here and we're expecting a downpour today and tomorrow and the temp has dropped some 15 degrees. As much as I love this cooler weather, it would be nice to use this time to work in my gardens, but my back is not loving this weather at all so I'm stuck in resting mode hoping the pain will ease a little.

You would think that in this day and age they could arrange for people to go to a police station with identity, have their finger prints scanned and then get them sent to the consulate. Even if you were charged on top for getting that done. It's crazy that you have to travel across a whole continent just to get a passport.

Rofl @ the orangutan. It's unbelievable that someone like him can follow Obama like that. I think Obama can go down on the list of some other great Presidents that you have had.

It's a bummer that your back is slowing you down so much Martha. I really feel for you matie. Pain like that makes one feel far older than their years.

Very cold again here today. I can't wait for this month to be over and done with. For me today is going to be a same ole same old day. Tomorrow I have a cat scan which will get me out of the house for a bit. I don't mind the cat scan but I do get nervous about this time about what the result will be. But hey ho, no point worrying about something I can't do anything about.
