Scientists say that a star goes super nova in our galaxy roughly every 26 years. They can see how many have gone super nova by the remnants left. They have counted the past super novas and have found there have been approximately 250 in the life of our galaxy. 26 years x 250 = 6,500 years - This is the approximate age of the Earth as written in the Bible.

PostSubject: So Many Versions of Bibles   03/05/17, 02:32 pm

Christian (Protestant) Bibles we use today in Britain are translated directly from the original Hebrew and Greek text.  They are not copies of a copy of a copy of a copy as Islamists believe.

There is one exception though, which is the "New" King James Bible (NKJV

King James Bible also known as the Authorized Version (AV) was translated from the original Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek.

The New King James Bible: was translated from the original King James Bible simply replacing old English words with the more modern word, such as Ye and You.

Example:

Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast. ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them. under their feet, and turn again and rend you. (King James Bible)

Do not give what is holy to the dogs; nor cast your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you in pieces. (New King James Bible)

As you can see the later text does not change the meaning of the text.

The New International Translation (NIT) is a translation taken direct from the Hebrew, Aramaic and the Greek texts to bring the Bible into a more modern language.

Therefore the three Bibles above, used in the UK are all, as near perfect as possible, the exact word of God and the teachings of Jesus Christ as first written.

The second point I want to make is that many people get muddled up with the Jehovah Witness Bible (NWT) with the (NIT)

The Jehovah Witness Bible is called the "New World Translation" or (NWT).

The Old Testament for this was translated directly from the Hebrew, and the New Testament was translated from Old Latin which had been translated from the orginal Greek, as well as some Gingsburg Hebrew text thrown in which had also been translated from Old Latin.  Therefore the New Testament of this Bible has been corrupted.

Footnote:  There is one other Bible that I should mention, and that's the Gideons Bible.  This one you would have to look up for yourself as I can't make head nor tail of it's history and/or translations but as far as I can follow has been a translation of a translation.

Although I own all of the Bibles in the above post I do only refer to and read the King James and the New Living Translation, as I believe that as both of these are taken directly from the Hebrew and Greek texts any mistakes from the original scripts would be minimal.

I honestly have no desire to pick up a Bible Sandy.

I respect almost all religions or believe systems, as long as they don't try and shove it down my throat.

From a historical point of view and if you have the interest in religion in such manner, then I can see how reading different Bibles can be interesting. Smile

Well, I have now spent months seriously studying the various religions, because I have had so much time on my hands whilst I have been ill.

I was brought up C of E regarding the school I went to, including church 3 times a week, although Mum and my extended family had the belief in God, religion simply wasn't part of daily home lives.  Because unlike you I had a choice to believe or not to believe I did used to love leaving the school in a croc and going across to the Church.  It was fun and got us out of school.

Because I had never been confirmed I wasn't allowed to take the bread and wine, not that I wanted to, I just found it all interesting.  I loved singing hymns etc, I love listening to the sermons, not that I paid any attention to what was being said really, but I found the praying in bulk a bit stupid.  I always thought if one wanted to pray then it should be a one on one with God.

I really had no idea of the Trinity or how it exactly worked, but the bible stories I loved as when I was very small I found a childrens book of bible stories at a jumble sale.

So for me, religion was never serious, but was fun, as I could take or leave what I wanted.  A bit like fairy stories if you know what I mean.

As I got older (15) I gained a great friend who was a staunch Catholic.  I couldn't believe the rules and regulations she had to live under.  It was then that I started to become interested in the Bible and various other religions.   I found the Bible a great history book and thought nothing more of it, than it was history.

I then met a couple of Mormons at a bus stop and got chatting to them and they gave me the Book of Mormon.  I had to chuckle at that one when I read it.  Such twash.  But very interesting.

Back in Croydon when I was an adult there was continually Jehovah Witnesses at the door.  I used to just say no thanks and shut the door, until one day I was bored and invited them in.   I delved deep into how they lived as a community rather than what their beliefs were.  It wasn't hard to realise that they were a cult rather than a religion, because like Islam they hold people to ransom.

Because I then found out that the Jehovah Witness Bible was corrupted I simply had to go out and buy one and compare the various passages to the King James.  Very interesting.

But the point is, the various man made rules and regulations that have entered into the churches, has put the vast majority of people, not only off of religion but also compleletely off any form of belief in the Bible and true Christianity at all.  People have become wiser and are no longer superstitious and therefore are turning their backs on religion.  That and along with the fact that there are so many off shoots of Christianity, it's become a total joke.

But I personally do believe that there is truth in the Bible.  If one ignores completely religion and man made crap but instead studies the Bible I do think it's far more than just history.

I question Catholicism as much as I do Islam, because delve into Catholicism and you find a tremendous amount of paganism and the occult, but you try to make a Catholic see that and you are hitting your head against a brick wall.  Not only is there paganism and the occult within it but they are actually defying the true word and breaking many basic Bible laws.  Even their symbols are pagan symbols.  Even using the word Church is a misrepresentative of what the Biblical word means.

A church is simply a gathering of two or more people that believe and follow the words of Christ and the word Church was first ever spoken by Christ.  The building is a temple not a church.  The people are the church.

I could write a whole post on Catholicism alone.

I  was brought up under strict Catholicism Sandy and could write a book about my own experiences.
Nothing made sense to me from a very young age and I always kept saying to my family that it was wrong and that it felt fake and forced but they just looked at me as if I was the mad one lol.

When I was 18 I broke with the Catholic Church and ever since that day I became the black sheep of the family. It was the best thing I did for myself and I have never regretted it.

I just like to keep an open mind and like you delve a bit further into religion, beliefs etc and while doing so I follow my heart and instincts and that has served me well.
For me there is no need to associate with a religion .... I associate with humanity, peace and love for all creatures on this planet!

I think it all boils down to power and greed to tell the truth Martha.  From the highest to the lowest when it comes to any form of religious organization it boils down to power and greed.

Everyone needs to believe in something better than the life they have here on earth, and this is taken advantage of by those that lead the churches.  All the time people follow blindly they are making those that lead either richer in money or higher in stature.  The Catholic church is so very obvious in this one.

The Pope lives in a palace, in a city of his own for goodness sake.  How much higher on this earth can one possibly go?   That religion was founded on Christianity.  Founded in the name of the very man that told everyone to give up their belongings and follow him and his teachings.  The Catholic church is the most hypocritical of all the religions on earth.  The Catholic church has more riches, more treasures and more power than kings.

It was quite something that such a young child as you were then could see through all that.
