Shakespeare made up the name “Jessica” for his play Merchant of Venice.
Shakespeare probably based it on the biblical name ISCAH, which would have been spelled Jescha in his time.

Nothing to add here either but hey Becky and everyone else.

Another wet and very windy day coming up.

Sandy I'd have liked some clarification as to what "Enough is enough" actually means in practical terms.  It's a nice slogan but what does May intend to do?

I'm hoping that she is now going to make up for the time wasted as Home Secretary, and actually get tough.  However I don't think her type of tough is what the rest of us believe it to be.

The first thing out of her mouth was getting tough on the internet and banning hate speech.  Unfortunately that usually means that even more people will be banned from places like Twitter and Facebook that are simply exercising their free speech with them calling it hate speech.

Back in January Milo Yiannopoulos got a life time ban from Twitter for simply giving the new Ghost Busters film a bad review and then making a joke about one of the women that plays one of the Ghost Busters.  He is a British conservative libertarian and has just finished a tour of the American Colleges.   Twitter have wanted to get rid of him for a very long time due to his honestly and fight for free speech.  I've actually seen the tweets that finally got him a ban and I can honestly tell you that they were not racist or hateful.

Both Twitter and Facebook are very left wing.

I do of course believe in banning any form of genuine hate speech, instructions of how to make bombs, recruiting young people into Islam and so on.  But I can truly see that being misused to also ban the genuine fight for free speech.

What it does need doing is banning the ISIS flag totally.  Closing down Mosques and schools where it is known radical recuitment is going on.  Stopping hate marches by the Islamists.  Arrests for obvious hate demonstrations of burning poppys, as well as stopping this closing of roads on a Friday for them to pray in the streets.

We also need a couple of internment camps to allow us to round up those 3500 plus (they actually believe now that there maybe as many as 6 - 10 thousand) and hold them without trial or legal help for 3 months.  That would give the authorities time to not only question them but also de-radicalise them.

That may also make it less attractive to more youngsters being easily able to be lead over to Islam.  That to me is getting tough.  Tough means allowing people to follow Islam as a religious belief system but not allow them to make it a political system in this country.

We also have to put a stop to that bloody London Mayor installing his own agenda for the creeping in of Islamic beliefs (I personaly think he should be sacked).

Mark my words though, any "tough" new laws or rules that are put in place will affect ordinary decent people more than they will affect radical Islam in this country.

I'm sure May isn't going to get "tough" enough to put paid to all of this, but I think she is our best hope at the moment.  Not only for that but also for Brexit.  We need a tough Brexit.

I don't forget that it was the Labour party that was accusing all white British of being racist when we complained about multi-culturism in this country getting out of hand.  I don't forget that it was the Labour party that not only allowed but encouraged this far left PC thereby stifling free speech.

The Labour party also want to keep the masses dependant on the state.  State dependancy brings in the voters.  That has always been their agenda.  They stopped really fighting for the rights of the working class donkey's years ago.

I honetly still don't know if I will be voting Ukip or conservative tomorrow.  Not because I am totally behind May but she is the better of the evils that we have at the moment.  Maybe May will surprise us and become our Donald Trump (although I doubt it).

Just dropping in  ,  to keep in touch  .

Pretty heavy subject there Sandy ,   but I agree, things are all mixed up  in a big big way .
I can't believe what is happening in Canada with Just-in Trudeau at the helm    .

Canada has a Motion   on the floor , to silence us , put forward by a Canadian  Muslim born in Pakistan,    a member of parliament !!!. If it passes ,it will be a punishable crime to speak against Islam .
Yet .... all the Muslims can go around making threats of death towards all the infidels ???? headbang there is something terribly wrong with that ,

This is pretty much all over the world now Geru and in some countries stronger then in others! It is how they slowly take over if all our Governments don't grow some tough balls and deal with it properly!

Becky I still haven't done anything more on my test board either. It will soon get too wet and/or cold to be outside and that's when I have more time on the computer.

I agree Elaine it indeed was a well thought out post from Sandy Smile

When I read it, the first thought that came to mind was how quickly things get out of hand and how badly some people listen and/or read when it comes to putting ones view forward.
It's true though that the whole freedom of speech is now a joke because one can not speak freely anymore with all the racist claims being made! The world has gone flippin bat crazy!!!

Yup, I was playing at creating that only a couple of days ago.  I've always liked portal pages but I'm never sure if the extra clicks irritate those that visit.

I did see a bit ago that Canada was discussing a blasphamy law Guru.  The Islamists are attempting to get it discussed here but as far as I know it's being ignored at the moment by the powers that be.

I think this spate of attacks in London one after the other so quickly might affect quite a few other countries, as well as our own, into realising that something more needs to be done now, and not this wishy washy way of thinking that life can go on as it has been doing.

3500 that we know of in our country and possibly could be anything from  6 to 10 thousand that we don't know about.  Now that is a bloody army, and if they wanted to put the Jihad cry out the country would be in a civil war virtually overnight.  Not that I for one moment think that would happen.  But the ingredients are there for that.  But that did happen in Lebanon in the 1970s.  One moment that was a Christian country.  They let in Islamic refugees and within 7 years is was a complete Islamic country with hundreds of thousands of Christians dead.

I do think things are different now though.  Believe it or not, there are more Muslims all over the world leaving Islam for Christianity than the other way around.  All this propagada from Muslims saying it is the fastest growing religion is crap.  Christianity is growing faster than that is.  Even the Catholics are losing people to true Christianity.

No plans for me today.  I've been listening to some great lectures on line and I started a 2 hour one last night so I'm going to finish watching/listening to that before I even think of doing something active.

Also for fun I'm going to try to throw a "heads" as I post this.

I've been reading about the Canadian blasphemy law here; http://centreforinquiry.ca/canadas-blasphemous-libel-law/
Some quick copy of bits;
Many Canadians are unaware that Canada continues to carry an anti-blasphemy law in the criminal code.   Criminal Code Section 296  is the law which has remained on Canadian books since 1892.
-Early in 2015, CFI Canada began work with organizations around the world to oppose blasphemy laws wherever they exist.  As a key founding partner, CFI Canada helped to launch the International Coalition Against Blasphemy Laws.  Playing a key role in the drafting of the ICABL charter, along with Atheist Ireland, Humanist Canada and International Humanist and Ethical Union CFIC also supported the End Blasphemy Laws website

Although I think it would be wrong for a Canadian to display a sign that says "ALL MUSLIMS MUST DIE", I still can't see a reason to charge that person with a crime.

I was flitting between the Comey testimony and our polls Becky. The former was more interesting until this morning's results. Looks like we'll have a hung parliament which surprised me somewhat.

I don't agree with blasphemy laws and I hope those trying to introduce one here get shot down with ammunition to spare. Metaphorically speaking that is.

For some reason I have to log in here every day. No idea why since it's set to sign in automatically and has worked until this week.

Your cache might need cleaning out Wendy.  I kept getting logged out last week but once I did a cache clean out all was well again.

As for our voting last night.  I am not a bit surprised that we have ended up with a hung parliment.  Most only voted Conservative in 2015 because they were the only one of the 3 major parties to promise a referendum.  Both Cameron and May have been too stupid to see that.  I wanted to cry when I found out she had called another general election because I saw this coming.  I couldn't believe how bloody stupid she was.

Ukip is now useless without Farage.  He was Ukip, so them dropping as they have is also not surprising.  It was obvious that Labour would gain so many extra seats because we knew the kids would come out to vote this time, and we all know they are being brain washed in the schools and colleges to the far left.  May should  have also seen that coming.

If you brain wash kids as they have been doing for years then it's only to be expected that they aren't going to use their own minds to weigh up the pros and cons.  Not only that, but kids are bloody selfish.  Corbyn promising to scrap university fees were bound to get the kids voting for them.  Kids aren't going to think of what this will mean to our Brexit, borders, terrorism or future of our country.  They are only interested in what personally affects them.

As for blasphamy laws. We only abolished our blasphamy law in 2008.  Did you know that?  Previously it had been part of cannon law for hundreds of years.   We replaced it with the "Radical and Religious Hatred Act".

Blasphamy in this country included, denying God or Christ (so Atheists were up shit creek).  Scoffing at the Holy Scriptures.  Speak or write against Christianity.  And loads more crap.

And did you know that hundreds of Christians were put to the death by the Catholic Church because it used to be blasphemous to read the Bible.  Only Priests were allowed to read the Bible.

And another interesting snippit is, very few Catholics actually own or read a Bible today.  Whereas every Christian owns at least one Bible.  Even to this day Catholics are not encouraged to read the Bible for themselves.

The Catholic Bible has 7 extra books in their Old Testament than the Christian Bible.  The Christian Old Testament has kept to the original books that the Jews had.  Later some Jews added books, which is why you get your Orthodox Jews and your Rabbinical Jews.  Orthodox Jews follow the original Old Testament and the Rabbinical Jews follow their Talmud, which are books written by Rabbi and they also added the extra 7 books into their Bible.

So you see if you look closely into the three religions.  You will see that .........

Orthodox Jews and Christians use the same Old Testament and accept it totally as is with no additions and no changes.  Rabbinical Jews and Catholics have both twisted much of the Gospel making the religion more man made than the word of God.  The Catholics also use a lot of the Talmud in their services.

Rabbinical Jews, The Catholic Church and Islam are all very closely linked.  Much of what is in Islam was copied from the Catholic Church.  Did you also know that Muhammad's first wife was a Roman Catholic.  She remained as his only wife until she died.  It wasn't until she died that he started saying that Allah said it was ok for Muslims to have more than one wife.

In fact I have a link to a video that some might be interested in.  I will post it in my new Lectures and Documentories forum and you can make of it what you will.  The Islamic and Roman Catholic Connection

Morning all Smile still to early to really get into any discussion but I too was surprised May called this early election and thought she was mad doing so.

With all that has been happening I kind of switched off to be honest as it's nothing but bad news and destruction and killings lately. Then there is the one side news reporting which leave out so many other news worthy things.

Sandy I do agree though that kids only vote for what is of profit to them personally and they don't look at the bigger picture that much.
Same thing happened over here in WA and we got the state Labour in again. Liberal was not doing well here but what the kids don't see is that Liberal has been trying to fix the deficit that Labour caused. There's no win win situation as now Labour is going to hand out more money that they don't have ...sigh. And so the cycle continues.

In all those years when the mining boom was big, WA was being short changed by the federal government when it came to GST returns. All other states received more back in revenue then what we did and it is still today one big sore point for the state politicians.

I didn't know we ever had a blasphemy law Sandy which shows my ignorance. I can't say I've heard of anyone being prosecuted for blasphemy in my lifetime but it may just have gone straight over my head. Young ones aren't the only ones who can be self absorbed at times.

I do remember some arrests revolving around poppies and war memorials in recent years but I've forgotten what the actual charges were.

I was amazed May called an election after constantly saying there wouldn't be one. I thought it was very risky but didn't expect quite so many losses. I think her social care plans set a lot of the Tory core voters against her. The stupid woman should have kept her mouth shut and got on with things.

I finally got my car back yesterday. Yay! Sadly I had to part with that lovely new one though. lol It's hammering it down with rain and windy so I doubt I'll be venturing out today unless there's an emergency.

It remembered my log in details this morning so I didn't have to fill them in again but still didn't log me in automatically. Not a big deal just curious. It logs me in fine on Martha's. Took an age to load the page too. I thought it was going to white page but it got there.

Nothing exciting happening here. A day of sunny spells followed by heavy rain and thunderstorms is forecast.

I assume you are filling in the radio button to keep you continually logged in? It's a pain in the rear when one keeps getting logged out.

To tell the truth I too was very surprised to find out that we still had a blasphemy law. I knew we had one way back, but it never entered my head it was still on our books this late. I suppose it was one of those that never got wiped off, or changed, over the years and just became naturally obsolete, and it wasn't necessary to revisit it until we had Muslims demanding that we used the law to stop us having free speech regarding Islam.

Regarding the poppys, I only remember that Choudhury got a £50 fine for doing that. He was found guilty of using threatening or abusive words and behaviour.

Good you have your car back again.

I'm tempted to totally give up on politics now and just let them get on with it. They have no idea what the people want and only listen to the few that shout the loudest. I'm also tempted to not bothering to keep up with the news as we haven't a clue what is true and what is not.

When they brought the voting age down to 18 from 21 the majority of those 18 year olds had been in the work place and out into the world for 3 years as the normal working person was still leaving school at 15. 18 year old were far more grown up than 18 years olds of today are although I still thought 18 was far too young. Now we have kids that have absolutely no experience of the world, get their fake news from Twitter and Facebook, have never read a newspaper in their lives and are brain washed in schools, colleges and universities by the far left instead of learning both sides in order to make an informed decision.

The first general election that I was old enough to vote in was in 1970 when I was almost 22. By then I had been working for nearly 7 years, I was a wife and Mother and running my own home. That was also the first election that 18 years olds could vote. I remember voting for Harold Wilson but the conservatives under Heath won. My eldest sister was, and always has been a conservative and my Dad was a staunch Liberal. Both of them were always well into politics and I remember having brilliant discussions with both of them. Dad that year voted Labour simply because he said, as much as he would have liked to have voted Liberal it would have been a wasted vote. My sister Barbara was furious with him for voting Labour, lol. But then she is often furious with me now because I vote Ukip.

Today I am going to sort out my clothes again. I am still hoarding some that don't fit me now but am finding it hard to let them go as they are in such good condition. Eventually I only want clothes that I actually wear and aren't just taking up room in my wardrobe and drawers. I also need to do some washing.

I liked Harold Wilson. He was proper Labour unlike Blair the wannabe Etonite. I went off Labour the minute that weasel became their leader. I think the discussion going on about lowering the voting age to 16 is plain stupid. A few that age may have some knowledge of politics but they're rare.

The whole situation May has created now is a nightmare. I'm sick of reading about it to be honest but teaming up with the DUP is a horrifying thought.

The log in is less of a problem now it's remembering my details. Radio button is checked. It was more annoying having to keep putting my e-mail addy in.

There was someone charged for urinating on a war memorial too but I don't recall any blasphemy charges in my lifetime. Of course my memory is shot so there may have been. I think like you said though it was just obsolete until dragged up by someone attempting to use it for their own purpose.

Another wet and windy day here with a max of 59F. I want Summer! Taking a break from boring housework and off out for lunch with family later.

I also loved Harold Wilson. He really did have the country's and the people best interests at heart. I loathed Heath.

I've just looked this up...

Quote :
Michael Newman, a secondary school science teacher and an atheist, was arrested under England’s blasphemy law for selling Wingrove's blasphemous video, Visions of Ecstasy in February 1992 in Birmingham. He was forced to resign from his school position due to protests from Christian parents. As a result, he became a subject of discussion in the media, including an appearance on Channel Four’s Comment programme in England.

Wow!  I don't remember that.

I remember reading a while ago now about the using of the official prayer book being used in the Church of England becoming compulsory.  Those minsters that refused were fined, lost their job and sometimes imprisoned.  I can't swear to it but I think it was in the 1600s.  That was done by an act of parliment, but I haven't a clue if that is still on our statute books.  Although if it is it can't be being enforced because of all the wierd and wonderful off shoots we have now of Christianity.  I'm going to have to have a read up of that again.

I remember the war memorial incident.  She was a jobless alcoholic and got 7 months inside for that.  Although she was on probation at the time, so I supposed they used that to send her to jail.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3798328/Woman-urinated-war-memorial-jailed-seven-months.html

But I think there was also a similar incident of a druck young man also urinating on a memorial.  I'm not sure about that though.  I might be just remembering the incident and fuss it caused when a young man climbed to the top of a memorial.

I sorted out a couple of my clothes drawers yesterday, and in doing so I realised that I really need some new knickers, lol.  Gonna sort out a bit more today.

Just popping in again , got much on the go , but can't forget how to get in here .... lol .

Have visiting to do with relative from out of province , we go sight seeing and dining etc . I am learning how to use the bus , now that is something else new to me . I am all pooped out from all the waiting fir the bus to arrive ..... lol

Sandy : I agree with you on what you write , things have gotten all mixed up in the west . Yes, they are using our own law against us  . Sexist , Racist , hate speech , offensive etc etc , is all one hears now days .   One can't open ones mouth and you get cut down  . Free speech ??? that is a joke now days .  Muslims don't get dominated they  are telling us ,*  THEY DOMINATE US *    Now I ask you, .... who is dominating them ???   No good will come of all this . For one thing ..... Schools should banish the teaching of all religions   , keep this for the churches and the home  , it would solve a lot of problems .. I have nothing against Muslims , everyone to their own beliefs I say, but quietly and private .

That's the one I was thinking of Sandy. I didn't know she got seven months though. I think you're right about there being a young man as well though. I don't remember that Michael Newman case at all either. Strange that since you'd think it would have been well publicized.

Enjoy time with your visitor GERU. I wouldn't have a clue how to use a bus now. I haven't been on one for over thirty years. If I ever do give up my car I'd have to learn too.

Nothing exciting happening here. More housework this morning and then visiting my brother this afternoon. I haven't seen him for a couple of weeks so he'll probably have something needing fixing on his computer by now. lol

Hello Everyone,
Off topic just wanted to stop in and say hello before I head off and take a shower and get some housework done. Have a nice day!
