Facts

Shakespeare made up the name “Jessica” for his play Merchant of Venice.
Shakespeare probably based it on the biblical name ISCAH, which would have been spelled Jescha in his time.

Having to hang around the flat today as today is going to be the chap putting up my curtain rail for me along with the chap coming to bring my Sky box and set it all up.  Oh my!  I can't wait to start watching my favourite programmes again.

I forgot to buy or bring any shampoo with me and I am itching to get to the shop and buy some.  I haven't wanted to leave Louie on his own yet as with no carpet and us not being settled properly he is a bit restless, and I have to teach him that he mustn't bark everytime someone passes the window.

Once the curtains are up and the carpet laid tomorrow I can shut the curtains while I pop to the shop to stop him seeing what is going on outside until he learns what all the new noises are and that he can ignore them.  He isn't used to living on a ground floor.

Bummer about the shampoo Sandy and yes it will take a little time for Louie to settle in and get used to the new sounds and smells.

This week is a hit and miss for me as a few appointments/arrangements have been changed. At this point Thursday is the only day that I have nothing on the agenda.

I put in a small order to be delivered from Tescos so will be able to wash my hair tomoz.  They charge a little extra for deliveries under £40 but I don't pay for running a car to shop for myself so it's worth it.  There were a couple of other bits I added that I might as well get now instead of waiting until the weekend.

The curtains are now up.  What a lovely chap he is that did them.  He told me emphatically that I must stop trying to do things for myself and to ring the office when I need him for even the smallest of jobs.

The Sky TV chap also arrived dead on time at 3pm and within a few mins I was all set up with that too.

I'm now having trouble organising my boxes being brought over after the carpet has been laid because the removal chaps (The Hungarians, Martha) now have the driver in the hospital for a couple of days and can't do it until the weekend.

So the chap who did the curtain track (and curtains) said to ring him tonight if they can't do it (the hungarians were still not sure at that point in time) and he will run over with his van tomorrow evening after work and pick them all up.  I'm going to insist that he takes the money that I would have given the hungarians, even though he positively says he doesn't want anything at all for doing it.

So far so good.

Hi everyone!

Good that you have your curtains up, Sandy.
I imagine your little dog will adjust
to his new home in time.  :0)
And nice that you can have products delivered to you!

Hope you can do something that you want to do
on Thursday, Martha.
It's nice to have a free day to ones self.

My husband is coming home from the
temporary care center on Thursday afternoon.
I am nervous and afraid for his heel
is still healing and he cannot bear any weight on it.
He has a wound vac and a boot on it to protect it.
It will be nice to have him home.
I got rid of a few things while he was gone
and rearranged some furniture.
I gave one of our recliners to my daughter.
He may not be so happy about my de-cluttering
at first.
But I think he will be so happy to be home
those things won't be important. (I'm hoping so. haha)

Hope everyone has a great rest of your day!

lol Good time to do those things Kerri while he's not watching. It will probably take a while for him to notice and by then it will be too late to complain. I hope his healing continues well at home.

Martha it sounds like your weather has been even worse than ours. Of course it's supposed to be summer here.

Sounds like progress is being made Sandy and it's good of your handyman to offer his van if needed. He won't want you all doing your own jobs in the flats because you'll put him out of a job. lol Call him and keep him busy so it looks like he's indispensable.

Elaine that smoke sounds nasty but thank goodness it's only the smoke you're getting.

I'm just doing boring chores today and trying to block out the sound of the digger and concrete mixer at the back.

You are so lucky that you can call on the handy man there Sandy! What a great thing to have and wished at times I had one here. If he doesn't want to accept money perhaps find out if he drinks and get him a bottle of whiskey or whatever instead.
I would get him to go and grab those boxes and have it over and done with myself. There is no telling if the removal chap will be available soon.

Kerri I am going to have a lazy, stay in my pj's day today I think as we're in for more bad weather. Done my shopping so won't starve LOL and the only thing to do really is fold the washing. Then I will snuggle up with a movie or my book.

Good timing on the removing some things too Kerri Smile it will make it easier for you and your husband will be just too happy to be home. Hope all goes well.

Wendy that noise from the builders would drive me nuts! Catherine had to listen to that when she first moved into her house.

We have visitors for a week in a couple of weeks so trying to spruce the garden up and a few things in side.  They aren't staying with us as they are doing the East Coast of Australia for 3 months and they come from our home state so it will be good to see them.

Quiet day here and just loving it. No cooking, neighbours rang this morning they had visitors last night and asked us over to eat the lasagne left over as she had too much.  Beats cooking.

Everyone enjoy your Thursday.

That is nice of him. I would take him up for all those things. Heck he is offering.

When I was in Europe we shopped at Tescos - just like our Target over here. But a tadbit different.

PostSubject: Re: August Yacking   03/08/17, 08:37 am

Hope all goes well with hubby coming home this afternoon Kerri.  Maybe he wont notice things are missing, lol.

Our weather is really crappy here too Martha and I bet Wendy is getting it even worse than we are down here.  It just wont stop raining, and the winds are so high, and we are in for some more today as well.  Louie simply wont go out in the high winds and rain.  I take him out but he just stands dead still shaking, so I have to put a pee mat down for him in the bathroom on days like that which is a sodding nuisance.

Enjoy your visitors Joy.

Well, there seems to be a lot that has changed since I was here last.  Charlie (the chap that said he would move my boxes) tells me, that now you just ring in the office and even tiny little personal jobs you might need doing they will send someone around to do it for you and not just maintenance type jobs.  He said, he knows I like to try to do things for myself but I mustn't.  That he would much prefer to come and have a cup of tea with me than have me attempting to climb on chairs and such.

I have also noticed that they now leave all lights on all night around the complex rather than have them go on as you walk passed and then off again after a few minutes.  They always left the lamp lights on but now they also leave the main door lights on all night.  I'm wondering if, A) someone might have had a fall or something trying to do their own little jobs and, B) If perhaps they might have had an attempted break in on site.  It might be they have just changed their policies from just renting to more warden type help renting.

Another thing that has happened is that they have now made a start to tear down blocks one at a time and rebuild them into one bedroom flats.

They are at the moment in the process of moving the power station that belongs to the site.  The next step is to build a brand new block of one bedroom flats on that bit of land and then move people from a block they want to tear down and rebuild that, and so on.

I know when they did one of their estates over at Christchurch they managed to do a block a year.  We have 7 blocks here so depending on which way around they do it, (we are in a sort of a circle) I could be moving again between 2 to 6 years.  So exciting.  I wonder if they will pay for new carpets if they move us.  Most assured housing, if you are compulsively moved, they do do that.

I honestly don't mind living in a small studio flat as this one is, but how wonderful to get a one bedroomed eventually.

Charlie is getting my boxes this evening and I will take my time unpacking them and then I should be well settled by the weekend.

I'm now going to drag Louie out while the wind has dropped.

Yep we're getting more of the same weather. Pouring with rain again and pretty windy. It's hardly stopped raining for over a week now and the forecast is for more of the same. Sounds like you've found a great place there Sandy and it's only going to get better.

I just got drenched simply putting out the recycling. Nothing exciting happening. A few chores to do but I'm hoping for a quiet day and some online time.

Glad to hear you got the boxes sorted and it all sounds so much better in regards to calling in for some help there Sandy Smile How did it go with getting your furniture put back in after they laid the carpet?

I had a lazy day yesterday and it was wet and miserable here but woke up this morning to slightly warmer temps which was nice.
It's my usual busy Friday and about to have my 2nd cuppa while catching up on a few boards.

Another very wet morning here. I'm going to do mine and mum's grocery shop soon and then not venture out again for the rest of the day barring an emergency. This weather is getting depressing.

The carpet laying went surprisingly quickly being as how they had to drag all the furniture out and then back in again.

All boxes are over now as well, but all I did last night was hang all my clothes up and put those away.  I can do the rest bit by bit today.  There's no hurry as I'm not expecting visitors that would also take up space.

My big sis Barbara popped in yesterday for an hour.  My Nephew Gary drove her over as he is down in Dorset until Monday when he then flies out to Italy for a few days.  They were just about to go to Sainsburys when I rang to tell her my new phone numbers and address so made a detour to me.

Today I have no deliveries to wait for, no workmen to wait for, and so I am not even going to bother to get bathed and dressed until at least midday.  I nipped Louie out to the gardens for his ablutions while still in my jammies this morning.

I ache from head to toe today so I have obviously been doing too much too soon so need an easy couple of days now.  I am sleeping well though.

We are having a heat wave here, it was 30c + 87F yesterday , today we  sit at 25c so far , that is my absolute limit for tolerance  , can't take high heat or humidity .  Also has hazy smokey sky , it is drifting over here now from the fires in BC .

have been without Internet , TV, phone, Apple TV, email , Skype  , total shut off , felt like I was on a deserted Island . Long story , was an upsetting 2 days , hrs and hrs on my cell phone with my provider to get it fixed ,  was all tired out, but got a good sleep last night .

Sandy; glad you are getting all settled in there, think we all moved with you ...take a good rest now and get feeling better , it sounds like you over  did it .   But ... that 's life , we all do it some time .

Becky:  I am in Canada, and I loved it when Target was here , liked their store  layout and merchandise much better  (then the Zellers store we had there  before ), good prices too, but .... after all the stores they opened here , and spent all that money rebuilding and adding etc etc , they closed up , store was not even open for a year, how sad , I really miss that Target store . Sad

Martha:  Hello to you, and don't work to hard today , and enjoy your coffee .

Whisper:    send some of your rain over here , we have had none forever , think the world has turned ... lol .

Have a nice weekend everyone

Sounds like a few days resting is what your body needs indeed Sandy. I know you don't like massages that much but it would iron out some of the tension in your body.

Sorry to hear you where without all of that Geru. Amazing how quickly we get used to those services and how cut of we feel when they don't work hey?

Wendy even I would be getting depressed with the weather you're having there!

Saturday morning here and I've been awake for a few hours already and it's just gone 8am. Nothing planned this weekend so playing it by ear and do (or not) whatever I want these 2 days lol.

Oh heck Geru, what a bummer.  I can just imagine the frustration with all of that.

I had another really good night's sleep and woken up refreshed.  I only have 6 more boxes to unpack, which I intend to do bit by bit throughout today.  I get the feeling though that I am going to have problems finding where to store the last bits left at the end.  I hate having to store stuff under my bed, but that might have to happen.

I had a bit of drama here yesterday with workmen coming and going - read the full story HERE.  Which I am not happy about but am resigned to it all.  I'm too happy to be once again in my own place to let myself bother about something that can be fixed.

Louie is really missing the hussle and bussle of Sarah's place along with missing the girls I think.  He still isn't completely settled, although I am taking him out several times a day to make up for not having the girls to make a constant fuss of him.  His low, rumbling growl has lessened from hearing strange noises in the building so that's good.

I also had to leave him for about 15 minutes yesterday while I went and bought a take away dinner from the dining room here.  I left the laptop video running so that I could see/hear if he barked or made a fuss while I was gone, and he didn't.  He just stayed in his bed/bag all of the time.

Great that he didn't get over anxious and bark while you were gone. That can be a real pain to curb. A real pain about the leak though. Welcome to my normal world. lol If it's not water getting in one place it's another. Seems like an endless battle against damp and mold. Hopefully yours will be all dried out and sorted soon. What I wouldn't give to be able to just call in the workmen. lol

That's a bit of a downer GERU. Glad it's all back on now. It's amazing how disconnected we feel very quickly when internet and everything else go down at once. The rain has stopped this morning. Maybe it's on its way to you. I hope so but I don't trust that blue sky. Nice to finally see it though.

I had a long chat with my friend in California last night. She's getting very excited now. I'm too tired to work up any enthusiasm at the moment. I'll get excited next week after what I hope is going to be a quiet weekend. Between mum and visitors it's been an exhausting couple of weeks.

Sounds like Louie is slowly settling in Sandy and it won't be long and he will be greeting the locals there lol. I agree with Wendy and think it's great that you can get the workers in so quick.

Wendy you must be getting excited too for your trip to see your friend Smile

I had a nice binge watching of Madam Secretary yesterday and was snuggled up under my soft blanket with coffee and chocolate.
Need to do a load of washing so I will have the clothes horse out and hang it inside as we're still having rain here.

Hello All,

Just did a whole day of doing homework. So just going to retire to my room for the rest of the night after I get Baylee down for the night. With all this smoke I have not been outside until today but earlier and my lungs hurt. Now I have a headache, so hopefully with my asthma medicine I will be better tomorrow.

Sorry to hear that Becky.

I'm still waiting for the fourth series of The Blacklist to come on our boxsets Martha.   I checked the other day but I think the series is too new for it to be there yet.  I also have the last few Madam Secretarys to watch.  I found those on "catch up" that I missed this last few weeks while at Sarah's.

Not long now for you Wendy.

I just have one box and a few odds and sods to find homes for, then I can do the ordinary housework such as dusting and hoovering, and I am all sorted until the leak is dried out and they come back to redecorate that which has been spoilt.

I was going to go to church this morning but, 1) I don't want to leave Louie on his own for as long as a couple of hours yet, until he is well settled, and 2) I am so bloody shattered that I just didn't want to rush around early getting ready, especially as I still have more to do in the flat to finish off.

That's horrible Becky. I hope the medicine works and you feel better today. Awful to be more or less trapped indoors though. Good for catching up on housework though I suppose.

I've optimistically hung jeans and sweatshirts outdoors because it's not supposed to rain until lunchtime.  This is the longest we've been without rain for a couple of weeks. Almost 35 hours now. lol

Sticking with my plan for a lazy, quiet weekend.

Weather not to bad right now , temps comfortably warm , but it will rise , some how by late afternoon my apartment is always much warmer , guess it depends on where the sun sits .  I run my fans , will have a nice hydro bill this summer .

I might head out to the village  part of the City later on , they are having their street market  today ,( traffic is blocked off  for 6hrs )  always great things to look at , and fresh baked  bread and fresh from the farm veggies for sale , they have everything from soup to nuts , even a stand with curry and other spicy dishes , and live  music some times .  It's a long weekend  here ... so  lots going on .

Becky: I do hope that the meds help to make you feel better ?, smoke does funny stuff to our lungs , got hazy skies here too , lightly smokey  way up high . Last evening the sun looked beet red , and you could stand to  almost look at it , so the smog cover must be thick .

Whisper:   Stick to the peaceful weekend ... lol , and hope the rain stays away , enough is enough,  lots of excitement  coming soon  bounce

Martha:   Hope your weekend is slow and easy too , with the coffee and chocolate , Yummy  geek, rain rain go away  , so those clothes can dry

Sandy:  It does sound as though you are coping well , even with all the hurdles , and Louie  i getting used to the street noises ?.... well... sounds like things are improving .  I don't have pets , not allowed , but also have allergies to their hair and dander .

See you later everyone .
