Shakespeare made up the name “Jessica” for his play Merchant of Venice.
Shakespeare probably based it on the biblical name ISCAH, which would have been spelled Jescha in his time.

thank you  for sharing Sandy ,  don't know how you did this , you amaze me , YOU TUBE I see, but don't have a clue otherwise . You would need a movie camera  I guess .

Your little suite is neat , you got everything you really need , and  a great view too .  Great idea to section off the sleeping quarters , enjoy your new home .  Love your comfy chair .

Ps.  the gap by your front door ..... how about getting them to install some weatherstripping on the bottom , in the winter when the wind blows you will appreciate this , but for now , what you got there will help .

I use the camera on either my iPad or my phone, then it's just a matter of clicking to upload it to Youtube.  Personal videos like this can only be found if I give the url to it.  Otherwise they are private.

These units are small but they are great to live in.

I love my old fashioned phone.  But because it's a dial analogue I can't use it to phone businesses because of all the push 1 for this and push 2 for that, so I also have a second modern phone on the windowsil to make that sort of out going phone call.

There are also things I have to buy and sort out to make it things more practical but that fun video gives a glimpse as to how it looks at the moment in it's first stage.

I love hearing other people's accents.  Martha's is great because although she is Dutch she has been living in Australia for so long that she has an Australian accent with a little tang of Dutch slung in.

I must make a video of the immediate area for all to see.  You will then understand why having such a small place is well worth it just to live here.

Thanks for the tour Sandy. They're small units but have everything you need in them. You just need imagination for storage. The bookcase was a great idea. That's not a bad view either. Some nice plants just outside your window as well. Looks like Louie takes up as much room with his stuff as you get. lol

I agree with Elaine about the fact that you talk funny. :D

Of course you would.  You're one of those bloody northerners, lol. dance

I am going to have to do something about kitchen storage though.  There is so little cupboard space.  I'm looking around for ideas on that.

Hahaha.  That was the washing machine.  Silly me put a load in just before I decided to make the video.  It could have been worse.  It could have been on a spin cycle.

Great video Sandy Smile and I love the door stopper! So much cuter then my plain, boring one lol.

What a nice bathroom you have now; much better with the shower.

Love the view from the kitchen and I'm wondering do people walk past your window closely or is their some space as in privacy wise? And at night time do you have a blind there for privacy?

Hahahaha love all the comments on you talking funny Laughing I forget as I'm so used to how you sound.

Must find one of my old video's and post one so they can all have a laugh about me talking funny.

So sorry Sandy, my mistake ,  I noticed what looks like fan blade shadows  going around in the bathroom   , so I figured it was the fan,

We don't have washers in our  flats (apartments) here,  no one would put up with the noise  from above (like  for you for instance ).  Our laundry room is on the first floor , and we all use it , hrs are from 9:00am to 9:pm . Many have moved out of the flat above that laundry room , much to noisy .  All sounds  , heat ans smells travel up mostly  .   I do like the idea of having your own washer bounce , I sure miss mine since selling my home .

Not many walk past my window as that leads to the back rather than the way out to the main car parking and complex exit.  And those that do go passed are only those that live in this actual block if they are having a walk around the complex and even then they don't walk that close to the window.  I'm going to put a garden bench seat out there under my living room window and there will still be plenty of room for people to walk passed.

These flats are purpose built Geru and therefore the floors between us are solid concrete.  We can't hear general, normal noise from each other through the walls or the ceilings.  For someone to hear a television, let's say, one would have to have it really blasting out at party level, and even then it would be because the noise was coming via the hallways and not the floors or walls.  But as far as my washing machine goes, I never run it during the night as noises travel more at night.

It's normal in this country for everyone to have their own washing machine and I can honestly say I've never heard one working from the other flats.  We don't have such a thing as a laundry room.  In fact as far as I know it's not something that is supplied in any flats in this country.

Because the kitchens in these studio flats are so small, the odd person has decided not to have a washing machine taking up what could be room for a storage cupboard and then they do one of two things.  They either take their washing to the launderette at the top of the road or the woman from the launderette will come in and collect someone's washing, take it back, wash and dry it and then bring it back the next day.  I personally only know of one person that does have a collection and delivery like that, although I suppose there must be others.  I wouldn't do that because it works out bloody expensive over the course of a year.

Are you not allowed to have your own washing machine in your own flat?

I do have a fan in my bathroom which goes on automatically when the light is switched on or I can use it manually if I want to.

At the moment Martha I haven't fitted any form of blind or curtain in the kitchen.  I'm still thinking on what to do for that.  Blinds are bloody expensive and curtains would look tacky.  Still thinking on that one.

Instead of venetian blind there Sandy, how about a blind that you pull down like I have in my kitchen.
No idea what they cost either though so next time we have a skype session we will have to do some more brain storming I reckon Smile

Yeah, Charlie mentioned one of those roller blinds.  I think they are quite cheap actually.

Trouble with the kitchen window though is 7 foot and I think the longest one can buy is 6 foot.  Can't say I've had a proper look yet though.

I just had a thought. Fabric would be difficult to clean, so what about a picnic table cloth? You know, they have sort of a plastic finish on one side. That would be easy to clean with wipes!

Sandy:

Only high rise apartments  and some Condo's  have concrete floors here  as far as I know ,  but even those have separate laundry rooms . They charge you plenty for using them too.  I pay $2.00 to wash , and $2.00 to dry , cost's me $ 40.00 per month to do all my laundry , that includes floor mats , and light jackets .  Not sure how much that would be in Euro money's  , or do you still use Euro money ? And NO , not allowed to have your own washer and dryer in a flat . and no  dishwasher either . to noisy , and they can leak and cause rotting   and use  to much hot water ,heat and hot water is  included with the rent  here .

Your Kitchen window is wide , and I love it , but it sure will take a bit  of work to get a roller blind on there , they have to fit properly , lots of measuring . You would have no problems with getting a professional in to install something suitable , but there again .... very costly

Now  if this was me,   I would  buy a  round  rod , with fancy ends , and brackets on the side , the rod just sort of lays in   on the brackets . Then I would get some  machine washable  heavier or lined proper  fitting length  drapes  with loops that just pull along on the rod .   Shove the drapes to  the sides in mornings to get the daylight  and give you that wide open feeling and view   , and pull them closed  in the evenings , or when the sun maybe is to bright and heats up the place to much in the summer time .   But that's just my two cent's worth , every one to their own likes I say .

That's such a clever idea for someone Elaine.  Not for me though. I personally would just prefer the white of the original blind they used.  Thanks for posting that.

We have never had Euros in the UK Geru, we have always been british pounds, but I think that would work out roughly the same price in one of our lauderettes.

I think I will probably end up with, as you say, a rod of some sort with nets for the kitchen or very light material.

I have a rod also with nets and can open them with both ends held back with a tie. I close them while I'm out so no one can look in, yet it still lets in the daylight.

The new whirlpool washers ... but  only two for 36 Units . All works well  if everyone is on the ball and takes their laundry out on time .  The laundry room was all redone with new cupboards and brand new tile floor and painted , it is a pleasure to use in now , wish I could show you how it was when I moved in ... lol
