They certainly have done it up really well.  I can see two pros in having a laundry room instead of a personaly washing machine, and several cons.

Pros:

1)  A sort of social room to meet one's neighbours.
2)  Leaves more room in one's own kitchen for extra storage space.

Cons:

1)  An expensive way of having to do the washing.
2)  A drag to have to lug washing to and fro the laundry room.
3)  Having to time when to go up and down to move washing from washer to dryer and be a good neighbour not to leave the machines occupied unnecessarily when someone else might want to use them.

About the Pro's :

Have not met many in that laundry room , very unfriendly bunch here . I some times sit and read waiting for the laundry to finish .

There is no space for a washer or dryer in our kitchens , everything is built in tight , no room.

About the Con's

Yes , way to expensive , we pay for the machines , we own them .... lol
we do have an elevator  , so it helps  with the up and down running
Yes, you do have to time your self , 30 minutes to wash , then  45 minutes to dry . ( but some folks forget their clothes for days ) believe it or not ........

By the way, do you have a dryer in your flat , or  a clothes line ?
I am so appreciative of the clothes dryer here, remember the days and years of freezing fingers  .  I do have a wooden clothes horse  I will open on the balcony some times in the summer , but not often.

I was thinking the same thing regarding pro's and con's Sandy and Geru.

Still remember the time when I first arrived here in Australia and I was staying at a migration/caravan park/chalet type place for the first 3 months.
We had to use the parks laundry rooms and it was always full with people. We would sit outside those rooms and chat and get to know where everyone had come from etc. I truly enjoyed that time I must say but of course it was so different in those days.

I don't think I could handle having to go down the basement just to do my washing Geru.
Over here flats/apartments have a spot for the washing machine.

My washing machine is a washer dryer, but I don't very often use the dryer part of it, except for sheets and sometimes towels, as it's so expensive to run.

We have plenty of land here and it wouldn't hurt them to do a sectioned off bit with a bit of cheap fencing for some rotary washing lines, but washing lines aren't allowed here.

In this new flat I have been drying my clothes on clothes hangers on a couple of over the door hanging thingamejigs.

But I'm going to set up a pole going from wall to wall inside the length of my shower to hang hangers directly onto that.

A clothes dryer would take up too much room to walk around while clothes were drying.

I would also hate to have to lug washing down to a basement or whatever and then have to remember to go get it again.

Yep I use my shower rail to hang things such as my dressing gown to dry and it's perfect for that.

I also have one of those things you posted Sandy; a small one for underwear that I can hang of the shower head/arm. Similar to this pic.

Yeah, I want to get one of those too with the little pegs for undies.  Sarah has one of those on her washing line out of doors and it's so handy.

Forgot to mention , that I take the elevator down with the washing , but walk the stairs back up, 8 sets of 11 steps each .  lol , it's getting easier to do  , now that I am out walking to get my groceries . I still miss the car for lugging stuff home  . Sears don't deliver stuff to your door I don't think, but will try . I need a new bed quilt , and a new mattress cover soon , to big to take on the bus .

Oh wow! 8 sets of stairs.  That is some going.  I wouldn't have a clue how many I could do in one go without getting out of breath now.  And of course now I am living on the ground floor I don't have any stairs to walk up on a regular basis.

I love our Argos we have in this country.  They do same day delivery.  Ring in the morning and they deliver in that afternoon or evening.

As for the stars.  That goes on how many posts you make.  You gain them automatically as your posts mount up.
