Hi Everyone.

So glad you are feeling better, Martha.

The weather has finally cooled down a little today.
21C right now.
We had a 90F (32C) day last week.

I went to an Egyptian Festival today
at a Coptic Orthodox Christian Church.
The festival was outside but the public was welcome
to come in and go through the church.
They also give tours and explain the history of their
church and their people.
I've gone the last few years.
The people have been persecuted for their beliefs.

The church was so beautiful with intricately carved wood
along one wall, lovely paintings and stained glass windows
all along another wall.

I ended up buying and bringing home some
baked pasta with bechamel  sauce, baklava,
some fried dough with spinach and feta cheese inside,
some breads, and some pieces of baked apricot desert.
All of the food that the women of the church baked
looked delicious!
I also bought a desert tray of assorted pastries
to bring to a get-together I am attending tomorrow.

I can relate to how difficult it is some Sunday mornings
to get myself up and go to church Sandy.
I usually only go now, when I have my little granddaughters.
So that they are exposed to a protestant church as well
as the one their father takes them to, which is catholic.

Hope everyone has a great rest of the day!

Oh wow, I am sooooooo sorry, I am behind.   It's been sooooo busy here. Monday I was in a lot of pain. And I usually can take it but I guess I was also over tired, which explained hte pain, and I was just cranky. So I told hubby, lets go out to lunch, do a little shopping.  On our way our daughter called told us her Father-in-law suddenly died.  He was taking a bath her MIL went to check him and he was gone. She tan to the neighbors and they called 911 of course.  They had to wait for the EMt's to come, the police and the coroner. So what does one do while waiting for all that to happen. And 2 sons are 3 hours away, the other 2 are states away.  Why you clean the toilet and the vacuum.  Well why not, after all..my daughter's MIL is a Japanese lady who is just adorable. She is a hard worker, and the best cook.  Bless her heart.  She doesn't know how to drive at all. She worked 40 years in a factory, raised 5 sons, one died at 16 on his motorcycle.   She is quite incredible actually.  Grows a huge garden, cans EVERYTHING.  WEll anyway, my son-in-law went there right away. So we were picking up the girls every night since our daughter doesn't get home until after 6 and latch Key closes at 6.   Each girl had girl scouts each night, my daughter is the leader of one group. We made supper for everyone.

Then we went to the funeral Saturday 3 hours away.  Came home and my son was having a party of people he hung out with in high school and has remained friends. They invite all the parents too. Tell stories that some of us parents would rather not know..LOL      I went inside and put the baby to bed, so my son and his wife could stay outside.  I got her to sleep and we came home, I was exhausted.

Today I am more.....exhausted.  I am home playing catch up on the computer.

I tried to read and catch up.
Beckea, im with you on the asthma thing.  The smoke from the fires must be terrible. I would be so afraid. I ahve never had a huge all out attack but 2 small attacked of coughing was more than I wanted to deal with.  You hardly have a chance with all that smoke.   I don't even open my windows in the spring or fall well ever...I cannot take the pollen. Good luck. I sooo hope the fires are put out soon well for many reasons.

WE also have my daughters 2 dogs. My husband does most of the stuff with them. I cannot run after them if they get away They have a wireless fence at home, but we don't here.

Rest is the name of the game today!!

Oh the motorcycles were not at the wedding.  They were staying at the same hotel as us.  They were coming and going loudly after 10:30 at night.   Many of the guest went to the office to complain.  I didn't hear them once I went to sleep.  But if I had small children I would of been weary of the noise.

I hope you all have a great Sunday.

Oh Sandy, the page looks so pretty!!

Good Afternoon & Happy Sunday
It's raining!! The air feels great. 14 Celsius right now. It's been a lazy afternoon but I needed to catch up with some online stuff. My email box was full. There's still some to get to but I'll have to leave it for tomorrow as my back is starting to give me heck again.

I have the Firefox add on on my browser bar for my emails.  That way you can see emails coming in and read, delete, or spam them from the bar as they come in.  It's so much quicker and easier that actually going into the email pages and doing it all from there.

Thanks for the compliment on the new skin Tara.  So sorry to hear about the poor chap dying.

I bet that the visit to the Coptic Church was great fun   That would have been right up my street, especially with a guided tour.

No church again for me this week.  I'm thinking though, that my reasons for going are the wrong reasons.  One is meant to go to church to worship, but I am going simply to try to meet people.  Quite honestly I'm finding that at both churches the people, although lovely, their whole lives seem to revolve around the church and church business.  They seem to have no other interests or conversations.  Even Brenda's, who I now class as a friend, only activities are volunteering for church business.

It's hard to explain.  But, for intstance,  the only book I see in Brenda's is the Bible which she tells me she is constantly reading.  The only TV she seems to watch is the religious channels.  Her weekly outings she is volunteering for church things.

It's nice that she, and people like her, have this enthusiasm and energy to make Jesus their whole life and interest, but one can be a Biblical Christian and believe in, and live life, as the Bible and Jesus teaches and at the same time actually have other interests.

Mass worship isn't for me, and I feel a fraud and a fake to use the church simply to gain friends.

And that is another reason I don't have "church" friends as such Sandy. They are nice people and their dedication is admirable but that is also the only topic of conversation I find and just not up my alley at all.

So I fully understand what you are saying here and indeed you need to keep looking at meeting people in different settings; outside the church environment.

Morning all and it's a slow start of Tuesday as I had a sleep in Smile I do need to get ready to go the the doctor so I best hop in the shower and get moving.

Well, it's coming into winter now and almost time to hibernate. I also need to really wait until I can get this sodding bit of plastic or whatever it's made from out of me so that I can go further from home. So I willl take things as the come, enjoy the days and think of something else when I am able to be more active comfortably.

I'm not saying that I wont go to church ever again but I'm not going to force myself to go on a weekly basis. If I feel like it I will go, if I don't then I wont.

I am now beginning to feel the chill in the air which I don't like. Another week and it will have to be the heaters turned on all day as well as the evenings.

Today I'm going to give the kitchen a bit of an extra scrub and wash the floor. Not that that takes long as everything here is so small, but it still needs doing.

Aimee brought my charging lead for my fitbit over yesterday that had become mislaid at Sarah's during the moving. I'm going to once again keep an eye on the amount of steps I can build up between now and my procedure in November. No way I will be able to manage 10,000 a day until that's over with but at least I can check that I am doing something. Although just with the short dog walk I did just now I'm already up to 2000 steps this morning and it's only 10:15am. So perhaps I have been doing more daily than I thought I had.

I also need to get a battery for my scales as I feel now that I am once again putting on weight way too fast, so I want to keep an eye on that. I'm just about to start cutting out the cakes, sweets, biscuits etc that I have been stuffing myself with to get my weight up to the normal level after losing so much when ill.

Aw just don't overdo it Sandy as last time you tried loosing wait things didn't go so well.

We've had a taste of warm Spring here but the next week or so will feel more like winter with lots of rain forecast. We do need this rain and hopefully more will flow into our dams.

Oh, I'm not going to try to lose weight.  I think I am at the perfect weight now, going by how my clothes fit me now.  I'm just going to keep an eye on it and keep it stable now by cutting out, or dramatically down, all the sugar I eat with the cakes, sweets and biscuits etc.  I also want to now build up my muscles in my legs and arms that wasted away while I was so inactive which is why I want to keep a check on how many steps I walk daily.

Good afternoon to all .
Just lightly drizzling right now , but trying to dry up  It's 12c and I turned on the heat  for a bit this morning to take out the chill, fall is here I believe .

.  Our parking lot is half done with the paving I think, seems to be lots of work  to get it ready first , take out  all the lumps and bumps and fill in cracks .

Sitting here waiting for the health food store delivery  ,  got to make sure that I am home for it .  Amongst other items I ordered organic raw sauerkraut , good for your immune system  , also some organic Kefir  , and liquid fish oil ,  ..... flue season is coming  !!

Martha:  I guess your Spring has started ??,  my favourite time of year ....  enjoy the rain now if you can, your summers get  hot and dry I hear .

Sandy:   good luck with getting back in shape , slow but sure they say   . Guess what ?  the other day, I actually noticed a Tricycle like yours for sale in a store  .  I looked at the price tag , and just about fell over ....  Rolling Eyes    oh boy . But they sure are one neat looking bike for getting your stuff home , as long as there is no snow .
Religion is a tough subject to get in to I find , some take  it to serious , some use it  to avoid getting in to stuff they just rather not talk about .   I could go on , but it's best not to ( for me )

Tara:   nice to hear from you  , as usual you are one busy lady . Sorry about the sad  news of the death in the family , you get your share of heartaches  .

Sounds like the bikers behaved themselves at this wedding , and you were able to get your rest .

Kerri:    Guess you had a nice time at the visit to the special Church   , would have been enjoyable to learn about the history of it . The food you bought sounds delicious .

Beackea:  hello to you .

Have a great day everyone .  hug

Just dropping in to read posts and say a quick hello. I'm back from sunny California and it's cold, wet and miserable here. A shock to the system. Both journeys were a bit of a nightmare for different reasons but my time there was great. Managed to fit lots in and it was lovely to catch up with my friends in person.

Still unpacking and doing some laundry and sorting out car insurance and other mundane stuff. I wasn't best pleased to keep getting e-mails while I was away about that insurance claim. I told them once I didn't have that info to hand since I was out of the country. The beggars still haven't coughed up so the legal dept is filing papers with the courts this week. All very stupid since they admitted liability back in July. I wasn't very polite when the e-mails kept coming and got home to a string of calls on my answering machine about it too.

Hi Everyone.

Wendy,
So glad you had a good time in sunny California.
When you are caught up on your unpacking and sleep,
please share some of your trip with us.

Geru,
I love going through churches of people
with different cultural backgrounds and countries.
They have a Lebanese Festival and it is at their church.
It's all outdoors as well.
Good thing, as they have belly dancers at the Lebanese Festival. :0)
But I love going through the church
while I am there.

They also have a generic middle eastern festival here
that is held outdoors at a Greek church.
Very rich food. Fabulous breads.
They have a camel ride at that one!

Sandy,
Good that you are at a weight you are happy with.
I am trying to cut out sneaky sugars from my food intake.
I loves grapes and fresh fruit.
(Fresh cherries are my favorite.)
I have been told that I should limit the amount
of grapes I eat as they are one of the fruits
that are high in sugar.
And I adore potatoes.
The starch that turns to sugar?
Makes a grown woman want to cry,
the thought of a life without potatoes.  Haha.  :0)

Well, I try to limit the amount of potatoes I eat.
But, they are my favorite guilty pleasure.

Hope everyone has a lovely rest of your day!

Kerri here is an interesting article on Potato and starch.

http://drhyman.com/blog/2016/03/24/the-starch-that-makes-you-lean-and-healthy/

Hi everyone Smile It is wet and windy here today and we're in for a few wintery, cold and wet days. The gardens are going to love it and hopefully our dams will fill up a bit more so it's all good.

Sandy you've been quiet for a few days; hope all is well with you!

Welcome home Wendy.  Great that you enjoyed your holiday.  Long journeys are always a bummer.

I'm good thanks Martha.  Not a lot going on with me at the moment, hence not being so chatty I suppose.

Yeah, tricycles Geru can be a bit expensive compared to cycles but they are well worth it if they are ones only mode of personal transport.  They still cost less than a second hand car.  Also a new battery every two years and a yearly service is the only other expense for one.

I've given up with bothering with what the so called experts keep telling us we should do or shouldn't do with our food.  You drive yourself crazy trying to keep up with all the new researches.  So as far as I'm concerned if we cut out all processed food, which includes foods with added sugar etc. and only eat as much natural foods, that humans haven't messed with then we are eating as healthily as we can in this day and age where our food is all polluted in someway then we can't go far wrong really.

Any food that we eat a barrel load of is bad for us.  What they don't say when telling us things like oranges or grapes or whatever contains sugar is that eating them is good for us but eating a lbs of them every day is bad.  Potatoes are good for us, but eating a barrel full would poison us and so on.

Also what they don't tell us when they do these studies is that so called reducing the chance of cancer foods only reduce the chances by point silly something.  There's more chance of getting cancer by worrying about the food we eat than eating the food.

People around me on this complex are living into their 90s and even reaching 100.  They haven't worried about what they eat all their lives.  3 meals a day and each main meal has contained the three main food groups.

The oldies of today didn't know or think about how many grapes or potatoes they ate.  They didn't think about the sugars in orange juice or such.  They didn't go on fade meditaranian diets, blood sugar diets, and goodness knows what other diets.  If they found themselves getting podgy they just stopped with the cakes and biscuits etc.

Instead of doing research on what foods contain what, they should be doing research on how much they are poisoning our foods and bunging pills down our throats that we don't need simply because the Doctors are told by the phamacies that this or that pill will stop this or that symptom.  The Doctors don't care that this or that pill they give us in old age will cause less blood to the brain and give us altzheimer type symtoms.  Altzheimers is supposidly on the rise, but most (70%) are misdiognosed.

I've taken myself off of statins and already my mind is clearer and once again I am remember words and my spelling is getting back to normal again.  I don't feel so fuzzy.

I take absolutely no interest now in what the so called experts say about our food because next week they are just going to change their minds.  My regime from now on is going to be more walking and less eating crap sugary foods only which will bring down my cholesterol naturally.  Other than that I'm going to eat what I fancy of normal real food.

I"m waiting in for a delivery of a new iPhone today.  Sky do a great deal on the account I pay for my mobile service.  Up until now I have just been paying for the sim service and using my old iPhone 4, but I thought as I need a new phone I might as well add a new phone to that account.  My iPhone 4 is just holding on by the skin of it's teeth.  I've had if for 7 years.  I'm so excited.  I love getting new technology.  Next I must keep saving for a new Apple laptop.

Once my ipadmini goes I wont be replacing that as the iPhone 6 plus which I have coming will have a larger face than the 4 so I will only need that for when I'm on the go so to speak.

I need to make an appointment in a tick with the optician as I am well over  for an eye test.

Then change my bedding and wash what I take off, and have a general dust around and a hoover.

Thanks for the welcome back everyone. The time went too fast for me Martha that's for sure.

I'm with you Sandy. I ignore all the dire warnings about food and just eat what I feel like in moderation. I do need to get more exercise though. Enjoy your new toy. I'm the opposite. I get used to my old stuff and don't like wrestling new technology into submission as much as I used to. I think I'm getting old. lol

It's wet and windy here again. I'm still catching up on boring stuff but hope to start catching up on a few shows this evening.

I fully agree with what you said about the food Sandy Smile And you know my stand on medication and the poison they try and shove down our throats.

A quick check in this morning before I head out the door and also to say hi as I don't know how bad this weather is getting today! Pitch black outside and it's day now so not looking so promising with very strong wind and heavy rain already!

Hello! ♥️
It's Thursday night here.
We've been having a beautiful weather lately. I've got nothing to tell you about because I've just been laying in bed watching 3 seasons of Narcos lol. I can almost speak Spanish now!...Narcos is about DEA agents in Columbia in the 80's. Escobar, Cali Cartel, Los Pepes etc  There's barely any English in the whole show. It is well done but I was just reading that the company owned by Pablo Escobar's brother has filed a lawsuit demanding $1 billion from Netflix for using the Medelli cartel name and story without permission. This is shortly after someone brutally murdered a Narcos location scout in Columbia. The Escobar guy threatens consequences if Netflix doesn't pay up, so now Netflix might just cancel the show instead of taking chances with any more lives.  Crazy world.
Sometime on the weekend I need to do some shopping for weird stuff that I can't get at our local Walmart. And new cat vitamins. She doesn't like this kind that the Veterinary clinic gave me. Right brand, wrong flavour LOL
Ok, time to hit the hay and fall asleep to whatever TV show or movie I find to watch Smile G'nite!

Very interesting about the cartel Elaine.  Will be interesting to see what happens about that.

Poor pussy cat.  What an awful owner you are getting the yucky tasting pills.  How inconsiderate of you.  lol.  Mind you, Louie is like that with his treats.  Aimee used to bring home bags of naturally made home made treats for him that were cooked up by a friend she used to work with, and the bags used to contain several different mixed flavours.  There were those that Louie loved and those he turned his nose up at.

I looked at the clock this morning as I woke up and saw it was 20 to 10,  I leaped out of bed thinking I had overslept, had a wee and then looked at the clock again and it was only 8am.  Stupid mare I am.

My new iPhone arrived on time yesterday afternoon so I spent an hour or so moving the info from my 4 to my 6 plus via iTunes and setting it all up.  It's a beauty.  I'm so pleased with it.

I think exercise once one has retired is a big problem for us, because we are left with forcing ourselves out for boringly long walks or even more boring indoor planned physical exercise.

Bringing up kids, doing housework for a family, and working, gave us all the exercise we needed before hand.  As retirees we tend to do more pottering, dozing, and far less active activities to keep us amused.

I used to love going to the gym 3 times a week, if I tried that now I'd knock myself up.  I'm lucky to have Louie.  At least he forces me out for some sort of walking.

It's a sunny but chilly day at the moment but the forecast here says more rain later.

That's so true. The dogs used to make me at least get out walking but I've turned into a couch potato since the last of them died. Well not a couch exactly but I'm certainly on this plastic brain way too much. I'm about to force myself to go grocery shopping and force is the right word. I could just order online but it's one of the few things that makes me venture out these days. Funny how it didn't seem such a chore in Cali. lol

Such a pretty Fall day here today. The birds outside seem very happy, finding things to eat and giving each other heck. No squirrels around so far to bother the birds. I always feel like I have to go out and chase the squirrels away. The birds make such a racket when there is a squirrel in the vicinity LOL
I don't think that my ONE squash is going to be edible. There is too much mildew and the poor thing has not been growing any bigger. Oh well, I guess it was worth the experiment. Next time I'm going to plant the seeds in the ground, not a pot on the deck. Mildew is such a problem around here. Where I live is basically a filled in swamp. The entire island is this way. All the grass and weeds have mildew even. I once tried to grow strawberries in a hanging basket but they got moldy before they were ripe.
I think I'll take it easy today. Except I need to vacuum my bedroom, which is always a problem for my back. Needs to be done though!
I'm so glad the weather has become more comfortable. Soon I might make another trip to the mountains. I hope I can be there when the leaves are in full colour♥️
