The sun is shining brightly here but it's very cold out there. No snow though yet but I'm sure we are going to get it soon.

I too really have to go to the top of the road for a few bits myself today. It seems an awful waste of life to stay indoors so much but what is the point of forcing oneself out if one doesn't need to in this freezing weather.

I'm very pleased with my new sofas and how my room is beginning to look. I do need now to decide on how to slowly change the colouring of the soft furnishings as money allows without making it look awful as I go. My first step after Christmas is the cushions colours. That's cheap and quick.

I am going to miss having a table though. Although for personal use I am managing to work around that. It's just if I want to invite people to dinner or for a game of cards or such that's a problem.

Yeah, I've had the tagging activated at the same time as moving the kudos link to above the post.  But I don't think I ever explained that it was there.

I am so excited.  Since making my last reply I've been to the top of the road for a few bits.  While I was up there and now I can walk further without needing a pee, I walked right the end to a charity shop that sells furniture.

Normally I wouldn't go in there because they are ridiculous high prices for second hand.  I have no idea what made me go that far and then enter in there but I did, and low and behold they had a drop down leaf table.  The perfect size for the space that I have.  He wanted £59 for it but I bargained him down to £55.  Which was a very good price.  But then the cheeky buggers wanted £20 to deliver it to the very short distance to me. He was also willing to take £5 off of that as well.  Instead I rang Charlie and asked him if he would mind picking it up for me.

Charlie instantly said yes, and has just now brought it in to me.  I now want to clean it up with disinfectant wipes and give it a good polish.  I am thrilled with it.

Oh wow and yoohoo for having the urge to go there in the first place and of course for finding the drop down leaf table! What a bargain Sandy Smile I know you are thrilled with this one and now we both have one!

Wendy I hope the snow fall/blizzard was not too bad!

It's a solid oak one. It's darker than my other oak furniture, but it's been well cared for which is the main thing. I now need to get some of those fold down chairs that I can tuck away when not in use and until I do, the table will just sit there as an ornament, lol. Everything is slowly falling into place.

Oh yes, and Charlie also found me a blind that I can put in my bathroom. He found it in one of the flats they are cleaning out. It's not the pattern I would normally buy but as I said to him, once it's up when I find exactly the one I want the fixings will already be in place for me to slot any new one in. It's free, and it will give me the privacy I need when the light is on. At the moment I have just stood a nice picture on the windowsill to block any view when I shower at night. The frosted window stops viewing inside during the day but not when the light is on.

I"m going to wrap Christmas presents today. I have now bought all of them and once they are wrapped I can forget about them. I"m just waiting on one more to be delivered.

Today I need to do my washing, wash the kitchen and bathroom floors, and pay my credit card on line. I also want to sort out and organise my wardrobes a bit over this weeks end. Not sure I will get around to that though so not promising myself to do that one.

Sounds like you had a great day Sandy. A lovely table, a blind that fits and a nice man to deliver both without stinging you £20. Congratulations.

Surprisingly we haven't had much snow at all Martha. They keep saying it's on the way but we've only had a few light falls. It is freezing out there though. I've just walked along to the post office to post some airmail and the footpaths are very icy in places. If we do get a heavier fall on top of that the roads and paths will be quite dangerous. As far as I know I don't have to go out again until Monday luckily.

Not all my wood furniture is exactly matching either Sandy but everyone says that it all looks great together.

That Charlie is a blessing and then some!

I'm still on the lookout for a few chairs but am not rushed either as I can sit on my office chair for the time being.

I put some money on my sewing machine layby this week and only one more payment to go and I can pick it up and sew my curtains. Smile
I also want to find a pattern for culottes as I love wearing those.

Be careful with the slippery roads/path Wendy! Have a restful Sunday indoors Smile

Yup, Friday was a good one and yes, Charlie is a blessing.

I'm using my little laptop table/stand at the moment for my lappy until I can get some chairs and use one to sit up on one of the table flaps.

It's similar to this but a bit wider so that I can also have a mouse mat beside the lappy.
I've had is for years and it comes apart to store flat.  I'm pleased I held on to it.  Several times I've come close to getting rid of it.

I bet you can't wait to play on the sewing machine Martha.

I got a lot done yesterday but none of it off of my list of things to do that I had written.  Hopefully I will get those done today.

I did send off my referendum vote though which was on my list of to do's.  They are wanting to move our local council of Christchurch into the larger Poole council.  I voted no.  Christchurch isn't that good of a council but I fear things will go even more downhill if they amalgamate us.

Our little village is ignored enough as it is now, without us being part of a much larger council.  If that happens it will be as if we are wiped off the map.

There is talk of moving the borders again.  Christchurch (and us) used to be part of Hampshire until Margaret Thatcher changed the borders back in the 70s and put us in Dorset.  It's never sat well with the people here, and even me, as a new comer, can see the benefits of being part of Hampshire again.

Our village would then come under The New Forest, which is still run as a very feudal system, even to having it's own court and laws.  The New Forest council also knows how to manage money.  Everything is so clean, bins still collected everyweek, hedgerows cut, roads maintained and thought put into safe cycling.  It's a perfect little slice of England.  Sarah lives in The New Forest so I've seen their money management first hand.

It would be amazing if the borders are moved again and it takes us back under their care.

I tried to vote on that but the official website, the last time I tried, had a dead link to get us to the voting page.  I must try again before the deadline.

Sounds like that would be the ideal option not Poole.

We had more snow just after I posted yesterday but still nothing heavy. Temps are still below freezing. My daughter is back from the Dominican and just e-mailed me. She's freezing to death and they've got more snow than us for a change. lol My sister gets back in the early hours of Tuesday so she's in for a shock too.

Yesterday I started developing a sore throat. By the time I went to bed it was so bad that it's making me heave. Obviously I didn't sleep a wink. I've been gargling with diluted TCP which I hope is making the healing speed up. So I'm not a happy chappie today.

I found the cheap fold down chairs that I wanted to use with the table. I was going to wait until after Christmas to get them but I found the ones I want on line at a reduced price. Instead of £18 each I found them for £11 each. So although I couldn't really afford it yet, I grabbed them at that price.

Charlie is coming this afternoon to put up that bathroom blind he has for me. Although I've just sent him a text warning him of my sore throat. I would hate him to catch it and then take it back to his little G/son. Not that he is going to get close enough to me to catch it, but it's only fair to warn him.

I still haven't wrapped those bloody Christmas presents. I really must do that today. Or at least if I don't do all of them I would like to get some done.

Oh dear. That's not fun. I hope the gargling helps and it's a short lived thing. My poor window cleaner is out there doing the windows. He usually comes tomorrow but says it's supposed to be even colder so they're doing as many as they can today. Rather him than me. It's freezing. Literally. I'm staying home.

Nothing exciting happening. Another e-mail from my daughter complaining about her partner this time. I just metaphorically nod my head in the right places. lol

Sorry to hear you have such a sore throat Sandy and hopefully you get it eased and gone quick.

Oh boy window cleaning in that cold! No thanks; you couldn't get me to do that lol.
Wendy I always do the head nodding or go uhu when my kids complain.

Hi Beckea Smile

People that work outside winter and summer are so brave I think. There is no way I could do an outside job day in and day out.

Day 3 and I still have the sore throat but it is slowly getting better. At least I was able to get some sleep in last night. This has been the most vicious sore throat I have ever suffered. Either that or I have forgotten how evil a sore throat can be.

Charlie fixed up the bathroom blind late yesterday afternoon, along with bringing me in a small poinsettia. I mentioned one the day after getting the table and said how a poinsettia would look nice sitting on it, as well as explaining that nowadays a poinsettia is the only form of Christmas decorating I do. Charlie thinks I'm a grinch because I don't do decorations nowadays.

As I look out of my window at the other flats, I can see how some of the ole girls have been having fun with decs. and lights. I expect some of them even have Christmas trees up, although where they manage to squeeze one in and thereafter store the decs for the rest of the year I have no idea.

I have absolutely no thoughts on what I'm doing today as I feel like shite, so will be taking the day (again) as it comes.

I'm a grinch too Sandy. I haven't bothered decorating for years now. Nice of Charlie to bring you the plant.

I woke up this morning sneezing my head off and it's not going away fast. I hope I'm not coming down with something. I've only just recovered properly from that nasty bug I think I picked up on the plane in September. That was a stinker.

Cleaning downstairs this morning and then going to my brother's this afternoon. I'm going to have to brave the elements and clear the snow and ice off the car before then. Last night was the coldest night yet. Down to -15C in some places. Not that low here but still well below freezing. They reckon it's going to creep up to about 2C this afternoon which is something at least. Might thaw some of the icy snow.

Nice new photo of you Sandy Smile and how lovely of Charlie to give you that plant.

Oh fingers crossed you're not getting sick Wendy! Lots of hot lemon tea I reckon.

Sandy I don't know if you have honey in the house but if you do, slowly dissolve a teaspoon in your mouth might help.

I'm up at the crack of dawn again here so checking out a few boards and then I get stuck in the garden again as I want to finish planting today before it heats up again by the weekend.
I'm also taking care of Catherine's gardens for 5 days, starting today.
Her snapchats are hilarious Smile and she's in Memphis now I think. I loose track as she moves on every 2 days or so.

It is a nice photo.

Well it rained last night and still is. All the snow has gone and it's supposed to reach 6C today. Windy so feels much colder but no car thawing required at least. I think it's a one day only thing though and temps are going to drop again.

I'm checking up on someone's house for a while so will need to keep an eye on the temperature there. The tenants who have been there for over six years have just moved to a bigger place because they have two growing boys. Hopefully it will rent out quickly but the timing isn't great with Christmas and the New Year. I'm definitely not doing the garden though. lol

Still feeling the same as yesterday. Like something is trying to get me but not quite succeeding yet. Fingers crossed it will go away. I hope your throat is much better today Sandy.

Looks like you might be coming down with a cold too Wendy. I thought this for me was just going to be a sore throat, but no, it's just had to develop into a full blown streaming cold. Hope you too feel bettter soon.

No honey in the house Martha, as I can't stand it. Although I wish I did like it, as it's one of those foods that look so nice and attractive.

Yeah that last photo I was using as an avatar was horrendous of me. I couldn't have looked more old, wrinkled and ugly, lol. Even with the cold this new one turned out better. I just couldn't bare looking at the other one any longer.

I've got a food delivery coming between 10 and 11am. I still haven't wrapped the presents but really must do that today. It's one of those jobs that I really, really hate, so will keep promising myself and then it putting off. This is why every year the presents never get wrapped until the evening before I am due to go to Sarah's.

Have fun with the gardening Martha.

I used to hate having to look after Barry's flat in the other block, with his bloody fish. It got so ridiculous the amount of times a year he was going away on his cruises that eventually I told him I wasn't going to do it anymore. I think he's now in Australia for a month or so. I haven't actually seen him since I've been back. I do know he was home for a couple of weeks before he buggered off to Aussie.

After the shopping has arrived and unpacked I've decided that I"m going to get the presents, paper, scissors, selotape all on the floor ready so that I have to keep tripping over it until I do the job.

Good morning everyone. How is everyone doing?   Today is hubbys 66th birthday. I told him I didn't sign up to live with an old man.  LOL  But that's OK I'll keep him.  I gave him a new laptop. He has never had any new computer, always someones hand-me-down.  Several years ago my mom gave us some cash and I have had in the safe. I only take some out for something special, and I decided this was one of those times.  He worked all week trying t figure out how to unclog my moms toilet problem. He was all nervous about it.  Not sure why, mother does have the means to call a plumber.  But he knows how much she hates spending the money.

Mom is doing OK, she is down to 79 pounds and just told us that a few weeks before Thanksgiving she was diagnosed with bladder cancer. She said she doesn't want chemo, although not sure they can give it to her anyway. She is pretty frail.  I took her shopping yesterday, she seemed pretty good humor, she will be 85 Sunday. She said, "You have to die from something."   Hard to hear.  Anyway, they said its a low grade cancer whatever that is...LOL  They cut it out and want to do a bladder wash.  So since she snuck off to the Drs alone, her next appt isn't until Feb.  She said we could go along and find out what all is going on.

Heading out today to finish off that Christmas shopping. We have my side of the family, celebrations this Sat.  I have the baby tomorrow. Having dinner Friday night with my classmates & their spouses.   Should be interesting.    I saw White Christmas on the big screen. They have a theater in a town about 30 min from me, they have turned it into an artsy thing.  It was a sing along, words at the bottom.  It was fun.  Last Friday we walked around the Shaw's Botanical Gardens in St. Louis. They have it all lit up.  It was cold but not windy so it was pretty nice.  Had two other couples with us.

Anyone make divinity?  I made some last night, it bombed..I don't care what you do, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I made marshmallow fudge the night before, I was worried I over cooked it, and still the sugar seems like it didn't dissolve all the way.   But I bought Walmart brand sugar, I should've bought that baking sugar, I guess.  I only make this stuff once a year so I forget the hints and tricks.  I need to write them down.

Well that is all my news,  I read some things.   Its snowing in Cali and Florida and hot here in Illinois? What is up with that?  It did cool down here, to the 30's F.     Pray for California.  That fire looks just awful. At least a hurricane comes and goes, not those fires. Just devastating.
Martha get a new sewing machine?  I use to like to sew, now I force myself to do repair jobs.  I get all excited about a new craft then a fews yrs I move on..I kind of hate that actually.  Stick to one.

I saw Pearl and Kay on Facebook, both looking good. I hope they come back soon.
Take care everyone!

I hope your hubby had a nice birthday @TaraLynn7 and sorry to hear about your Mum.

I'm still feeling yucky with this rotton cold, although it's now the cough that's getting me down. Sore throat gone now but left with a runny nose, which of course is getting sore with all the blowing thereof, lol. It's been raining here for the last couple of days so I just made myself comfy on the sofa and watched tele, dozing off as and when my body decided it needed a bit of sleep.

I enjoyed the lounging but I think Louie got a bit bored. Makes a change to put me first before this bloody demanding dog. He took the opportunity of me dozing on and off to steal a few bits and take them to his bed. Last night I found half a packet of chewing gum in there, along with a hankie, a sock, and loads of tiny bits of sweet paper he had taken off the table beside me and chewed up.

I always know when he has been stealing because as he tries to bury everything under his blankets, the blanket pokes out of his bed and across the floor. That's when I search his bed before putting the blankets back.

Raining again today so I will only be going out to get my takeaway lunch from the dining hall. Next Tuesday they are doing a 3 course Christmas dinner, and I would normally go, but quite honestly I really don't feel like making polite conversation with those on my table along with once again listening to the after lunch speeches by the Mayor and other dignitaries, so I have arranged to have it as a takeaway as I normally do. Seems I'm not the only one to want it as a takeaway either.

Best wishes to your mum TaraLynn. It sounds like she's keeping her spirits up pretty well but sometimes that makes it even harder on family who just feel like crying.

Lucky Barry is all I can say Sandy. He should rehome his fish though if he's gone that often.

Whatever is out to get me is still only lurking. I've had a few more sneezing fits and my head feels like it's stuffed with cotton wool. Usually a sign of a cold on the way but I don't get colds or 'flu. Haven't had one since 1986. Something is lurking though. As long as it stays lurking I can live with it.

I've changed the bedding and washed a load, washed the dishes, done some ironing and the wheely has just been emptied so I've dragged that back into the yard. I reckon I've earned a coffee and a sit down so I'm having both.

I didn't get the gardening all done as I spend so much time on Skype and Whats App with my family these last 2 days. Not to worry it will eventually get done I'm sure.

You know with the weather/temp the way it's going there Wendy it's not strange you feel a bit under the weather. Fingers crossed it buggers of lol.

Sandy best thing you can do is rest whenever the body tells you Smile

Tara I have not picked the sewing machine up yet, but yes I do sew although I've gotten lazy and not sew as much as I used to.

I'm yawning now so I'm going to try and sleep as I have a busy morning when I wake up.

He did finally give his fish away Wendy. After I stopped being a sucker, he got one of his neighbours to do it once and then she also said no more. That's when he gave them away.

That's what I thought about the resting Martha. I'm doing what my body tells me. I sent a text out to the girls asking if one of them could drop me in some olbas oil and paracetamol. Both Sarah and Aimee came along with them plus some tunes to help with the sore throat. They stayed for an hour.

I'm feeling a lot better now. Still tired, also now have a headache, which I'm controlling with the paracetamol, and now have a bit of a cough, but at least I'm not longer feeling really ill.

I hope your cold isn't developing Wendy.

I can only imagine the problems you are having with doctors etc., regarding your Mum, being as you are so far away Martha. I hope you have a good night Matie.

Whatever was lurking does seem to have buggered off as Martha so charmingly put it. lol At least as far as I can tell this morning it has. It's probably too cold in this house for it to survive. lol I'm freezing.

More snow last night so my car is buried. The weather knows when I have to go out I swear. Got a parcel to pick up, grocery shopping to do and a house to check on. Hopefully a lazy afternoon once that's done though.

I  hope you feel better soon Sandy.

The gardening will still be there Martha. Much more important you stay up to date with what's happening with your mum right now. Keeping her in my thoughts.

I'm pleased to hear that it didn't develop Wendy.

No sign of snow here yet.

Sarah popped along this afternoon and we walked to the top of the road checking out the charity shops. It was really nice to have her company. She seems to be doing a complete about turn now. It's taken her nearly 5 months to come around since me moving out of her flat. But it seems to have been well worth the wait.

Aimee and Jessie put together to buy me, and send along with Sarah today, 5 reams of printing paper. They all need to be careful as I might start thinking I am actually gaining some respect from them all, lol.

I've been playing on Gab.ai.com today. I really think that that is soon going to take the place of Twitter. Twitter is so very left wing and liberal and is constantly blocking and deleting those that are conservative, libertarian, or Christian, and especially with those that back Trump. Gab on the other hand has promised that it will only block or ban any true hate or illegal speech. Twitter along with Youtube has now become a joke with their censoring. Although I do know that the biggest share holder of Twitter is a Muslim which explains a lot.

Gab hasn't got all the knobs and levers that Twitter has yet, but then it's still very new and is still being built up. But many of the famous people that are on Twitter have also started to open Gab accounts.

I'm looking forward to watching it grow.
