PostSubject: Winter Jibber Jabber   01/01/18, 09:43 am

Happy New Year all, and I hope it's going to be a really good one for all.

The majority of last year was a shitty one for me, but at least it got a lot better for the last third of it, which is a good sign for me personally that this year is going to hopefully be a better one.

I'm slowly getting my home all together as I want it, and enjoying doing it at the same time.

I have decided that I'm going to put nets up at the windows after all as I am beginning to feel like a zoo exibit.  I will get Charlie to put net rails up a.s.a.p. and then find some decent nets at both kitchen and sitting room.

I had some lovely gifts for Christmas, one of which was some red cushion covers and another was the black and white mandela throw that I wanted to make a curtain out of to separate bedroom area off.  The one I made previously, although lovely, is not going to fit in with the complete look that I have in mind.

I found a couple of cheap throws for both sofa seats last week, only £4.99 each that will do until I can find better ones that I really like.  I just wanted to cover the seats as soon as possible because it would be sods law that if I waited too long to throw something on them with all this rain the dog was bound to bring in some mud on his paws and mark them before I found the ones I wanted.

I've just chucked some bits in the washing machine.  Gonna do a bit of a hoover around and then get comfy and have a read.  I've been watching too much tele lately so need to pick up a book for a change.

Happy New Year everyone Smile

I've done some gardening and sorting out bits and pieces that where floating around here hahaha. Have not been in a cleaning mood lately so let things go a bit.

I also need to clean out my little storage shed as I want to start clearing out stuff from there too.

I'm mopping floors this morning which I really hate but with visitors in and out and the rain we've had I can't ignore them any longer. I was going to visit my brother this afternoon as I haven't seen him for a couple of weeks but he's got a stinking cold so I might give that a miss. That's the last thing I need.

My visitors fixed my shower so that's great but now my boiler needs fixing so I'll see if the engineer I use is back at work today and get onto that. One thing after another right now it seems.

Oh bugger you just don't seem to get a break with those things Wendy. Glad to hear at least the shower is fixed now.

Morning all and while I'm waiting on the washing machine to finish I am visiting a few boards.

Need to do some shopping and go and pick up my sewing machine today. Other then that I'm not planning anything.

saying hi all, went to a mall for something that i wanted, that would go with something i got on boxing day..and found a coin that the mint didn't have, there's a large post office in an ajoining mall, so that was good, my mom said why didn't i look for it last tuesday and i had to remind her that the post office was closed......because of boxing day...so that was good....

i have a few more coins on order, i have been collecting stamps off and on since i was 12....my mom's friend her husband got me interested......and coins are a new addition....

My ex used to collect coins. Had boxes full of them.

It's heavy rain here and gales gusting up to 80 mph. I hate the wind. Just hoping more slates don't come off the roof. Didn't get hold of my gas engineer so left him a message. Hopefully he'll return my call when he's back at work. Luckily the boiler is working so it's not an emergency. I just have to keep topping it up because it's losing pressure. My guess is the expansion vessel needs recharging but I'll have to wait and see.

Nice to finally get your hands on your sewing machine I bet Martha.

So pleased you found the coin you wanted @Karinsuezen

I too have had hot water problem Wendy. I had to get the plumber in as soon as the office opened after Christmas as the hot water had gone off. Turns out it's because now they have installed showers instead of baths, I'm not using a great deal of hot water via the emersion heater. This then heats up too much and trips the switch to turn it off. Bloody ridiculous set up if you ask me. But he turned the termastat down a bit which hopefully will stop it tripping again.

High winds here but no rain yet, but as it's rained every single day for the last week I'm sure it will arrive soon. I got the dog's walk over early just in case.

At the moment I am working my way through a list of today's to do's between jumping on here on and off.

Good morning everyone, it's a beautiful cold icy morning here. I don't mind venturing out in it it's just that I would enjoy it much better if I wasn't feeling so sick, but I'm probably going to being my camera so I can have excuse to take pics and rest.

Hope everyone has an awesome hump-day.

It sounds like the building manager or whoever pays for the hot water usage there did some cutbacks and that is one way he or she went about it but, I agree that is stupid thing to do I'm sure there's another way to cut back.

No you have got it wrong Marie, it's not been done for cut backs. Changing the 1960s 3/4 baths for modern showers have been part of all the updates and renovations to the flats as they become vacant.

When these places were originally built it was normal to have baths installed. Showers were virtually unheard of then. The updating to showers are for our convenience. As we get older and older it gets so difficult to get in and out of a bath, whereas walking directly into a shower is so much easier. I'm only 69 and I find it a pain to get in and out of a bath because of my arthritic hip, and we have people living in these blocks heading fast to 100. Many of us have been crying out to have our baths replaced with showers but originally they only changed them for those that really couldn't climb in a bath.

I think I might be the first person to have had trouble with the switch tripping. Now that he has lowered the temperature it might not happen again.

It is a bit of an odd system but hopefully that will have cured the problem. I haven't had an immersion heater for nearly twenty years but it makes sense to me that one person on their own with no bath is unlikely to ever use enough to warrant heating a full tank. Not sure how you'd get around that other than by fitting combi-boilers which would be a major expense.

The wind has died down for now but will be back this afternoon for a few hours. The rain has eased too. It's as dull as ditch water out there though so like you I'm expecting the rain to reappear soon.

Nothing major to do today. Recycling is out and I've done a few other small chores. I do have a problem I want to check out on my computer so that will probably end up eating into my time longer than I expect. They usually do.

Sorry I haven't popped in the last few days. I've been under the weather and mostly slept the days away. I'm feeling better now and can stay awake longer, but still have a stuffy nose, tickle in my throat and a slight headache. Could be from our super drippy weather too though. The entire backyard is a mud swamp again. I've started thinking about Spring already :D I know there were some plants I wanted to grow and will have to dig deep to remember what the heck they were. I always tell myself to make a list, ya I'll do that right away, other things come up & I forget about the list. Then I go through this trying to remember LOL. Usually, I can just rack my brain for a few minutes then leave it alone and the answer will come to me in a day or two. If I'm smart, that's when I'll make a list! :D

Aww Linette and Elaine hope you feel better today Smile I guess with the cold winter come the colds and flu's there now.

Sandy I hate those water heaters and they are expensive to run too. I had that electric boiler heater in the old place and it would take forever to get the hot water to come through the tap.  Now I have instant gas water heating and love it.

Just watered the front and back gardens and I'm soaking a few dishes. Need to hop in the shower soon and then head out again to do some handy home shopping lol. Need more potting mix and I want to find something to attach to the wall so one of my beautiful climbers can go up higher.

Wendy with a few emergency call outs this past week I never got to pick up my sewing machine so that's on the list of to do stuff for today too.

Good evening peeps, kicking back and free streaming some movies and thought I'd stop in here to see what everyone is up to.

I stand corrected @zandranna, come to think of it I wish they'd do that here where I live since the subs are way way too small to soak in let alone cold because they're made of metal which doesn't hold the heat.

lol No worries @karinsuezen although it would be awesome to experience your winters over there.  tongue

Hovering around freezing here but dry for the first time for ages. I was watching a video last night of that snow bomb. They were forecasting -29 for New York so we're having a heatwave compared to that!

I'm wrestling a few glitches on my computer today that I haven't had time to get to until now. Fingers crossed I can solve some of them at least.

Hello
It a quiet day here today. We're not doing much of anything. Hockey games for Roomie and internet for me. The weather is dreary but dry-ish today. Tomorrow will be full day of shopping. Right now I just feel like taking a nap. Enjoy your weekend everyone!

Without doing it deliberately I seem to have taken a couple of days away from the computer.

It's not that I have done anything special to keep me away though.  Visited my big Sis one day.  Had the odd neighbour pop in for tea, and Jess came along yesterday evening for a shortish visit.  Apart from that I've just bummed around, watching tele, reading and a bit of sorting out.

Louie stole half a packet of extra strong pepermints out of my handbag yesterday.  I found the empty wrapper and one sucked to death pepermint but haven't yet found the other 4 or 5 pepermints that would have been in the packet.  I can't see that he would have eaten them - surely not - but then you never know with my stupid dog.

I'm so pleased that it looks like we aren't getting any snow down here this year.  It's funny reading how Martha is playing in the garden while we are all dreading leaving the house in the cold.

I hope you manage to sort out your comp Wendy.  It's amazing how important they are to us now.

Today I am going to quickly run the hoover across the floor, put a machine load of washing in and then once again do sod all for the rest of the day.  It is Sunday after all.

I'm with you today Sandy. I'm going to do as little as possible. It's freezing outside but supposed to creep up to about 3C later.

One of my dogs used to love Polo mints especially when travelling in the car. She'd climb through to stick her head between our seats at the merest sign of a packet. None of the others would touch mints.

Got most things sorted on the computer. It was just a case of getting the time and enthusiasm at the same time really. One conflict between my favourite browser and a particular site but otherwise all good.
