Morning all.  It's a really horrible, dull, dark and a wet one for us down here today.

I'm not sure if mints are bad for dogs, but it does seem that some must like them.

Another day I've woken up feeling lethargic, but then that is very normal for me winter times.  I do have a bit of housework to do on my list but not a lot so I might break out the sewing machine later and play with that.

January is always a shitty month anyway.  Still too far away from spring to give one hope, quarterly bills come in, weather is dull, miserable and cold and no one wants to leave their house except when forced out for something.  Hey ho! roll on February, lol.

I'd better get off my backside now and make a start on my list.

Hot hot hot over here but nothing as bad as on the east coast over the weekend! Sydney had 47C Shocked

I spend so much time on the phone with family over the weekend that the rest of the time I slept so I got so utterly confused as to what day it was when I woke up.

Yesterday was a full on day for me and today is Jeremy's moving house day so another busy one.

Glad you got the computer sorted Wendy Smile as indeed like Sandy said we would be lost without one now.

Wish I could send you some of our hot sunny weather Sandy.
I need to go and water the back garden before the hot 35C sets in.

Hello!
It's so wet here that our yard is a swamp. That means I will have to keep a close eye on the mould problems. I'm starting to look forward to Spring. I hear ya about feeling lethargic Sandy. This weather just pulls me down. I got almost nothing done today. Oh well, try again tomorrow Smile

Had to give up and sort out another engineer to fix the boiler. Looks like my usual one has vanished off the face of the earth. Waiting for one to ring me back to fix a time now.

My granddaughter is arriving around lunchtime and staying overnight so I need to actually move and get some housework done before she gets here. Once she's here nothing will get done. I do need to pop round to an elderly friend's and sort out her caller display on her phone for her. Sounds like it's somehow been taken off her account and she's rightly wary about answering the phone when she doesn't know who it is calling.

GD and engineer both just left. It was the expansion vessel as I thought. He's recharged it but is still unsure whether it will hold or whether the seal is cracked. That cost £60 but if it has to be replaced we're talking several hundred so fingers crossed. It's worth trying even if it only lasts another year.

Sorted out that phone so my friend is a bit more relaxed about answering the phone now.

About to catch up on some chores now it's quiet again.

Loved our chat yesterday Martha.  It had been a while hadn't it?

During our snapchat video call Martha suggested some good ideas for me to use for extra storage, that wouldn't cost an arm and a leg.  I'm putting into process this week a couple of them.  This morning I started rearranging the kitchen with some of her suggested ideas.

As I write this I'm taking a break doing it for a cup of tea, but so far so good.

Tomorrow I want to go around the second hand shops to try to pick up a small drawer or cupboard unit for the sitting room area (another of Martha's ideas).  Doesn't really matter which type I manage to get if I can.  No point in going today because we still have the old fashioned Wednesday afternoon closing of all the shops.  We are very backward in these small village type areas.

So pleased you got your boiler sorted Wendy.  Why does it seem that a boiler always packs in when most needed in the midst of winter.

Oh well.  My tea break is now over.  Off to do a bit more of the kitchen.

Another break.

Kitchen is now a bit of a mess with stuff all turfed out on the sides and floor, ready for sorting and putting in better places.

Found some storage jars and tubs that I forgot I had.  Will wash those out in a tick and make use of them.  Not sure what for yet, but I'm sure I will think of something.

You know what it's like when organising.  Just when it is almost finished you have the chaos you have created to clear up to finalise it all.

Yeah it was a great chat Sandy Smile and I love WhatsApp video calling better then skype as the connection was better.

I've made a list of a few things I need to do here, so tomorrow (really today as it's in the middle of the night lol) I need to look for some small screws to put in the back of my linen cupboard door. Then I can hang a shoe holder on the back of that door and that will give me 2 extra shelves.

Sorted out the area to extend the paving at the back so I will have better space for my outdoor setting. Hopefully I get that paving done next week when we're supposed to have a few days with cooler temps.

Did my shopping today and a load of washing. Now all I need to do is find the oomph to do the ironing Neutral

Next on my list is buying a new printer; one that does do the automatic double sided printing. The printer I have now is to old. I will keep this old printer though for other stuff as I still have a lot of ink.

Fingers and toes crossed that the boiler will work fine for a while yet Wendy.

Oh no Elaine ... nothing worse then dampness creeping into the house. Hopefully no problems with that for you.

I can't believe it.  I have ended up with a whole empty (albeit narrow) floor cupboard in the kitchen which I can now use for more storage.  Not sure how to put that to best use though at the moment.

I have packed up a 3 tier steamer to give away that I no longer use now that I have a full size cooker, so that made a little of the space I now have left over.

I also still had some tools and decorating stuff tucked away that I can now get rid of as there is no hope in the future of me doing my own decorating.  That was all stored in the cupboard under the emersion heater.  That gives me room to store my trike bits in there, such as the battery, pumps and spare bits I have for that which at the moment is all shoved in the sideboard.

Slowly but surely things are finding their way into their own little corners.  Still more to do in the kitchen tomorrow or maybe Friday though.

Doing all this sorting like this in the winter, is keeping the blues away.  Not only the doing but the planning as well.

Tomorrow, as I said earlier, is hunting for a second hand cabinet of sorts and also a single duvet cover to turn into a couple of door curtains.

You all have such wonderfully busy lives♥️ I can do a little bit of housework every couple of days. I also create food to keep me going throughout the week without having to cook too much. sometimes I make yummies for Roomie. Which reminds me. I should soak some basmati rice so that I can give him a proper veggie & chicken stir fry tonight. OK! Everyone I hope u have an awesome Thursday!

You have been busy Sandy and it sounds like Martha is giving you some good ideas too. Imagine a whole cupboard empty even if it is a narrow one!

I suppose boilers always break down in winter because that's when we ask them to actually do a bit of work. lol So far it's holding the pressure better but the relief valve outside is still dripping so I reckon that's going to need replacing too. I'm going to wait and see how low the pressure drops first because if the expansion vessel does still need replacing I'll be making one call out not two which will save a few quid at least.

Been to sort something out for an elderly friend. I was good and used my legs instead of the car. An early frost but it's not too bad out there now. Just damp and dreary. Changed my bedding and did some bits of ironing so I'm having a sit down and a coffee before I start anything else. The cat helped me put the new quilt cover on and is now helping me type.

I'm managing a few extra steps walking too.  It's a drag when the weather is so bloody cold and wet though.

I hate the cooking part of survival, lol.  Give me anything cold on a plate from the fridge and I'm as happy as larry, but hot food I'm not so keen on.

Had a good evening yesterday.  Sarah and Jess came along for a couple of hours.  We had Fish 'n' Chips then some good conversation.

I also had a look in the junk shops in the area yesterday but all small chests I found weren't small enough for what I want it for.  I'm now going to try the personal ads in the area.  I suppose what I am really after is what one would call a bedside cabinet even though I want it for the sitting room area.

I want to do a bit more sorting today.  I'm not going to push myself and do a lot as I want to try to see if I can keep going with this sorting through the rest of the winter to keep the S.A.D. at bay.

Well done on getting that cupboard empty Sandy Smile

I've been looking to see what I've got hidden in the back of my kitchen cupboards as I know I've stuffed things in there and obviously those things haven't been used in at least 2 years; so out it goes too.
I'm starting on that tomorrow as it will be to hot for outdoors activities.

Well done on the walking Wendy Smile I guess that is one thing I do plenty of but I know I wouldn't be if it where as cold as what you and Sandy are having.

Today I made some chicken & cheese hand pies for Roomie. He ate only one but said it was yummy. He's quite sick with some kind of weird flu bug. Poor guy can barely get off the couch. I hope I don't catch it

Fish 'n' chips is one hot food I can always manage Sandy. lol I must admit I much prefer to graze on bits and bobs than cook a proper meal though. The closest I come to that these days is a microwaved ready meal or some hash browns and something shoved on a tray in the oven.

It's another chilly morning but above freezing. Very dull and dreary with showers forecast for later. I used to walk much more when I had the dogs Martha whatever the weather but without them there isn't much of an incentive to go out when the weather is so miserable.

I think I'm going to be disgustingly lazy today if I can get away with it. Good luck finding a small cabinet Sandy.

It's amazing what one can find that is no longer needed when delving into spaces that we haven't been in for a long time.

Then of course once you empty one area then you can rearrange other things to areas more suitable.  I had my tea towels at the top of my wardrobe.  Now I have been able to move them to the kitchen where they belong.  Same with my aprons.

My sideboard also now has a free shelf.   My goal eventually is to clear out everything from under the bed, except the storing of two fold down chairs and the dog's bed/bag.  I would dearly love to be able to move stuff off the top of my wardrobes but I don't think that's ever going to happen.

I love Fish 'n' Chips but I'd be surprised if I had them more than a couple of times a year.  When we were kids, Fish'n'Chips used to be our Friday night tea.

It's the same here as you today Wendy, weather wise I mean.  Which reminds me, I should go and put some socks on as my feet are extremely cold.  I'm trying not to put that extra heating on by way of an oil filled radiator.  They came to read the meter and money for this quarter's electric last week and it was just under £100, which is very high for these flats.

The price of electric has gone up dramatically in the time I was living with Sarah to coming back here.

After reading the meter and working out how many units have been used, when I left I would times that number by 11.5 and it would give me how much I owed including vat.  Now it's  times 12.6.  That's a hell of a raise.

So what I paid last week £96.76 would have previously been £88.32.  Our pension hasn't gone up though.  And that's without even thinking of the price of food.

I'm always lazy on a Saturday for some reason.  I should however wash the kitchen and bathroom floors.  I haven't done those all week because I've been making too much mess in the kitchen anyway with all of the sorting.

We've had a hot 38C here today and I did nothing other then read and watch movies lol.
Nothing got done in sorting out my kitchen cupboards.

I love a good fish and chips when I go to the Fremantle Markets.

Sandy our energy bills have gone up so much it's scary. Of course our pension went up by something stupid like $2 per fortnight. And the moment the pension increases; the government funded housing up the rent accordingly!

And to you Elaine Smile hope you feel ok.

I never put any up Susan so that's an easy one for me.

We're on ex cyclone storm alert for this afternoon/evening/overnight and tomorrow with thunderstorms, gusty winds and loads of rain so flood warnings as well.

If I can't be online I can always get a message through to Sandy. Smile

I don't put decorations up either.  I stopped all that the year I stopped doing Christmas at my home and Sarah did it instead.

I think our pension went up by 49 pence a week.  Although I don't remember getting a letter to say it's gone up at all.  I just think I read somewhere a while ago it was going up by 49p.  It goes up so little each time that I don't even bother to think about it.

Keep safe with those storms Martha, and I hope you haven't caught what your room mate has Elaine.

The cupboards will always be there to sort Martha.  I never got around to doing much yesterday either.  I spent most of the day snuggled up on the sofa with my heated throw watching Netflix.

I have no plans for today.  It's a cold, dull day out there, so once again, I'm not even going to bother to summond up the energy for thinking about doing anything and just take the day as it comes.

I pay £100 a month for dual fuel gas and electric Sandy and I don't think that will cover it this year. It's getting scary. That's 10% of my gross income so more than that after tax. Food is going up by silly amounts too as you mention. The hikes bear no relation to inflation or Brexit which seems to be the pet scapegoat. I swear they just pick a figure out of thin air and up things by that.

I hope that storm doesn't do any damage Martha and you keep your power. I really hate gales much more than rain or snow or anything else.

I'm just lucky that a lot of my electric is in with my rent.  I agree, I also don't believe for one moment that if we had voted to stay in Europe things would have been any better.  I do however think they are going to get a lot better over the 5 years or so following our actual exit.

I hope the cyclone missed you Martha.

I've had a lazy day and I intend that tomorrow will be lazy as well.  I'm trying to rest my bad hip.  It's been so bloody painful this last week or so that I've had to break out the walking stick since yesterday.  I thought if I rest it for a couple of days it might start feeling better, so I'm sort of semi laying up.
