Well, it turned out that Les, the electrician didn't actually turn up.  Charlie came in for a cuppa and turned the thermostat up for me so I now have hot water, but he is going to chase up Les putting in a new thermostat for me as it's obvious this one is buggered and will probably fail again.

I now have a completely red eye with burst blood vessels.  I have no idea how that happened, one moment my eye suddenly become blood shot on one side an hour later I have no white left at all.  Seemingly though this can happen for no reason and is nothing to worry about.  I did get this slightly a couple of time through the years when I was younger.  But I have just read that it can become more common the older one gets.

Sneezing, coughing, being sick, straining, anything like that can cause it.  Even just bending down seemingly.  It does hurt when I blink or shut my eye though.  I look as if someone has punched me, lol.

The Range is not a department store in as much as it's a collation of various companies under one roof but just a large shop that sells a mixuture of things (not clothes) as a department store would but owned by the one company.  Maybe Wendy could describe it better.

Dunelm Mill is very similar but has a far wider selection of bedding and soft furnishings.

I'm being taken out tonight by the family as the starting of my birthday week.  I have no idea where we are going, but this is the first of 3 family gatherings for my birthday.

I can't describe it any better. Easier to post a link to it.

The Range

Enjoy your outing to wherever it turns out to be Sandy. You can tell them all you've taken up boxing as your new hobby.

The outing turned out to be a meal and evening at the dog track.  I do love the dog track and would love to go more often than we do.

I wasn't even allowed to use my own money for betting.  They had all put together the cash for that and presented me with a money bag.  I won on two races, so came out having only lost half the cash that I had to play with.

It was great fun.  Tomorrow the two Grands are taking me out for the afternoon (Sarah is working during the day) then back to Sarah's for the evening.

Kerri and geru thank you Smile I'm feeling good again and am just taking it easy and slowly do more around the house. Not rushing anything and when I feel like going out instead I just go lol.

Wendy it's horrible when it comes to medications and I too always research what it is the doc wants to give me as most of them have such horrendous side effects that i wouldn't touch them either.

I now take mostly natural herbal stuff and have stopped taking any chemical sh%t for my Osteo Arthritis.

Sandy I would be furious if that happened here! You told the office not to let that man use the keys to your flat. Glad you have hot water again though but still.

Geru I only use long life milk these days and always buy mine at Aldi in a 6 pack and that lasts me 2 weeks. No more running around for the so called "fresh" milk.

It's a bit like a mall Geru but all inside one building. Our malls are separate shops usually connected by covered walkways.

Glad you had a great night Sandy. Enjoy today's outing. Nice to have a birthday week rather than just one day. lol

I had a really busy day yesterday.  Visitors in the morning.  Out in the afternoon with my two Grands, and then at Sarah's for the evening playing games and chinese.  Oh and cake of course.

I slept well last night, lol.

Quiet day today, and I must catch up on a little housework.  Although it's mostly tidying up rather than cleaning.  I seem to have been dragging a lot of things out this week and not putting them away.

Heavy overcast and raining , but better days ahead it says .10c .

Sandy:  Happy belated Birthday  finally noticed when your actual Birthday was  . what a lucky girl you are getting treated and spoiled by family. Hope you are all caught up on the tidying up by now .

Martha: glad you are feeling better again , take good care now .Can't get over all you guys using long life milk , nobody here carries it , but then , I have not been to all the stores either .

Wendy: A mall here is one big building with all kinds of different shops in it  . Then  there are other types , called shopping centres , where you enter each business from the outside,  side by side they sit , and most of the time sit under a connected roof .

Ah. So your shopping centres are what we call malls from the sounds of it. Very confusing. lol

I'm not keen on the taste of long life milk but my mum always kept a carton or two of it in case she ran out of fresh. Have you tried looking under UHT milk Geru.

Sounds like you're being suitably spoiled Sandy. Go easy on the cake. lol

Hello everyone,
It's me...I am alive. And well...well...you all know mom had a car wreck where she broke her neck in 2 places, her sternum, and 6 ribs.  She was becoming quite depressed in the nursing home, said she is ready to die and be with dad.  So I talked to the nursing home about bring her home, they said they thought it would be better for her.  They said she needed help during the day but would be fine at night watching TV going to the bathroom and bed.  So between my brother and me, we set up 3 caretakers, from 9-4 and we bought groceries and were ready to bring her home. She was so excited.

My husband went down to turn the furnace up and check on it, put a new filter in etc, and it would not come on.  We called the guy mom wanted and he was no longer in business but said he would do it for her.  Would be there Thursday. Then he would be there Sat. Then would be there on Monday. Monday he said maybe we should call someone else.   So we did and a company we never used before was nice enough to come out ASAP when I told them the problem.  Well, moms furnace was done for, it was going to be $1500 to repair it and it was over 20 yrs old. So we had to delay moms homecoming.  I was feeling bad for her so I took her some lunch, figuring she was tired of the nursing home food.  She was so ill she could not eat it. Throwing up.  I had to leave I cannot take adults throwing up, babies OK, not adults. My mom knows this and said leave.  Monday night they called and said we are sending your mom over to the ER so I took off and went there.  They ran some test and she had another bowel blockage.  So they loaded her in an ambulance and sent her to the city hospital.  Car wreck she went to St. Louis Mo. Barnes Jewish Hosp.  This time they sent her to Springfield IL Memorial Hospt.   Said she needed surgery right away, just like last time.  Springfield said no, she might not survive that and each time they do surgery it causes more scar tissue and it might happen again. So they pumped her tummy for 4 days, finally, she felt better and they sent her back to the nursing home.  She is back to not being able to walk alone but in a week or two if she gains enough strength we will bring her home.

She is down to 78 pounds so not sure how much longer she can live but she is a lot stronger than she looks apparently. She will be 86 in Dec.  I am beyond exhausted and sore all over due to the fact there has been no time for my aquatic exercise class.  I missed the week before due to hubby having cataract surgery, cornea transplant and laser treatment for pre-glaucoma.  The stitch is killing him and the dr wants to wait another month before he removes it. He usually isn't whiny about illnesses but he sure is about this one.  Since I just went through that in August, I know what it feels like. Mine had to dissolve. Weird.

And WOW I miss my sister...She moved 3 hours away and did not come home this week at all. So I and my brother went every day.

Sandy, I had no idea the eye could do what yours did.  Was it painful?

We did manage to get Halloween in.  Kids were so cute. I got about 30 here at my new house. I never had very many I enjoy having the kids stop by.

Well, it won't let me add a photo of the girls, they are getting so big.
The 3 yr old went on vacation with mommy and daddy to Florida beach.  They stopped at McDonald's on the way out of Illinois and back in the car mommy told Elizabeth to tell daddy he was silly.  She said, "Daddy you are F&*%ing silly.  Well, no one was laughing about that, and they asked her where she heard that she said at McDonald's, which I am sure she did.  The way people use the F word anywhere anytime is appalling to me.  I curse and I am no pride but my goodness have some decorum about the regard of who is where when you use such language.   She doesn't miss anything.

The 8 yr old had to do a paper at school.
1. The first question was what is your fav subject. She answered Math.
2. What do you need to do more of? Read
3. What do you like to do for fun? Play with my friends
4. Is there anything else you would like to tell us?  No thanks, she said! LOL

I hope you are all doing well.

Sun is out , streets are drying up , leaves all over of course .
I could tell you great stories here , your hair would stand up on edge !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Think its time I took a different path , that wizard on that  yellow brick road  winked at me the other day . affraid

Tara:  Good to hear from you , but all news is not good ... hope your mom makes it back to half decent health..... all that medication  in the nursing home would give her a bowel blockage alright  . Hope you can get the furnace repaired somehow so she can get back home . Nice of you to bring her some different food , but so sad she could not tolerated it ..... no wonder ,  she is lucky they did not have to do surgery again . Wishing all the best for her .
Ouch that must hurt alright in your husbands eye , a stitch that needs to come out .   Cornea replant ? oh boy , no wonder he is irritated , hope he gets that stitch out soon
And yes, I believe you are all tired out and sore , but glad your eye is getting better , how is the sight doing ?
To bad you could not get a photo on here of the girls , maybe another  day ?

Wendy :  I will try looking for UHT milk , but think I will get another powdered milk for just in case situations .

Oh dear Tara, your poor, poor Mum.  It's so cruel that fate gives some so much shite towards the end of life.

My Sister is going in for eye surgery today.  Hopefully she wont have to hang around the hospital too long before they take her in. Why they make everyone get there at the same time only to spend hours in the waiting room waiting for their time to go down/in I don't know.

No my eye didn't hurt Tara, just irriated and was uncomfortable.  It finally completely cleared up yesterday.  Seemingly it can last up to a couple of weeks.

I had another lovely evening last night.  All the family was there and the girls had done a lovely 1970s style buffet.  Lots of chat and laughter.

That's awful for your poor mum Tara. I hope she improves enough to come home soon and the furnace is fixed for her by then. A delay in her homecoming is good under the circumstances but not that way!

Glad you got to enjoy Halloween and I love the 8 year old's last answer. lol

I hate to burst your bubble Geru but he winks at everyone. He's very fickle.

I hope your sister's surgery goes well Sandy and she's not hanging about too long. The last op my brother had he had to be there by 7am and his op went ahead at 4pm. Nil by mouth in all that time. It's ridiculous.

Hi everyone.

Glad you are feeling better, Martha.
Take it slow and don't do too much.

Sounds like you've had a wonderful birthday, Sandy!
Lots of fun, love and laughter. And good food. Smile

Yes, a mall here is many stores under one roof.
You just walk indoors from store to store.
We have Mall of America in the state I live in.
But also several smaller malls in the Twin Cities area.

I do a lot of shopping online now.
The Mall of America does have some nice specialty shops
that have some good sales.

It was rainy today but that's better than snow!
We may have a light snow at the end of the week
and colder temperatures.

I stopped and voted after work today.
Will watch some of the returns tonight
even though I have to get up early.

Hope everyone has a lovely rest of the day!

I've had a lazy couple of days.  Simply because the weather has been so bad.

I risked letting Louie off the lead on one of his walks and instead of running around like crazy as dogs normally do when they get freedom, he just walked back home and waited at the door for me to catch up.

Honestly, that dog is such woose when it comes to a bit of cold or windy weather.  Not that I minded because I wasn't over keen on staying out long either.

Charlie came in yesterday and put up two shelves above my desk for me, which allows me to move my paperwork out of my now "hobbie cabinet" and gives me more room in there for storage.

sunny morning here but cool , 8c ,  rain forecast for tomorrow, so one best enjoy while we can .  The trees are starting to look pity full bare, just some brown shrivelled up  leaves left . Mind you , the old scotch pine stands full as ever, but some parts are brown too. The squirrels are buy hiding their nuts for the winter this morning and are being noisy about the whole thing ..

Sandy; hope your sisters eye surgery went down well , and I hope your eye is feeling better by now?   Louie sounds like a well trained little doggy , walking home instead of running off on you while off the lead , guess he was in a hurry to get home where it's warm ...lol.
So more luck came your way , now you got two more shelves to fill up with your things  and make more room , good old Charlie !!

Kerri: Hope the snow stays away for you for now, to early .  So many Malls all over are going broke , because of online shopping .  Well, it's all about convenience , time saving and some times even money . I personally love Malls ,but don't always use them , they provide a  great way to spend a day if you have the time .

Wendy: yup , that wizard is fickle alright , caught him winking at the  Lamp-post yesterday ... lol , think  he is been nipping at the cider .

Hello everyone,
I could have sworn I posted here the other day, but I don't see it anywhere.
Life has been simple and uneventful for me lately. Halloween was no big deal. There were no trick-r-treaters but the neighbours were playing with fireworks most of the evening. I guess they had some leftover because I heard them going off late last night again.
It's getting chilly here. Right now the temp is 7ºC but it's partly sunny.
I haven't been out of the house much to see the changing of leaves and suspect Autumn is almost done.
The Northern Flickers (woodpeckers) and Dark-Eyed Juncos have been coming in droves to our backyard. They like to hunt whatever it is that surfaces when the morning frost begins to thaw. I don't seem to have any photos of a Junco but here's a shot of a Northern Flicker. They make a high pitched squawking sound that I hear all day. They're noisier than the eagles!

You have the noisy woodpeckers and we have the very noisy crows at the moment Elaine. Twice a day I have a huge flock of Cockatoo's flying over and they are very noisy too.

Sandy good to hear you got spoiled by everyone for your birthday Smile and glad to hear your eye is back to normal again too.

Kerri thank you Smile I'm just being a lazy bum at the moment and only do what I feel like doing which means not much housework is getting done hahahaha. I did help organise collections for the homeless and the women shelters to help stock upi before xmas so that's my good deed done.

I also bought a "new" second hand car .... a small SUV and a delight to drive.
Still need to clean out and sort out the old car but it looks like I've sold that one already.

Other then that I've been helping getting things ready for the engagement party next Saturday. More then 100 people invited apparently!!! Good luck to my ex as it's being held in his backyard.

Hi Tara and wow so much going on in your  life! Hope you do manage to get a break every so often and take care of yourself.

Geru thank you ... I'm taking it easy these days and go with the flow. Been using UHT milk for many years now and actually find that my body can take it better then the so called fresh milk.

Some sun  , but lots of clouds today, damp streets , 8c, and getting colder from what I read .  brrrr . Flu season is here, so many are sick  already .  Hope we don't get that harsh winter that is in the forecast , snow is not what I look forward too, spent to many years in the cold regions , shovelling snow . If we get any here, the village part of the City  comes to a stand still I tell you , no one likes it , not used to it .

Elaine:  good to see you, thought you had given up on us here .  Glad you are OK, you know what they say, boring or uneventful is good some times  . Nice photo of that Northern Flicker ( Woodpecker)  Crows are always around here, and they sure are not quiet either .

Martha:   UHT milk !!   that is nothing but almond, coconut or cashews etc etc  milk from what I can find  .  I am back to powdered milk for now ,, (just incase one can't get out ). I only use 1/4 cup for my cereal per day , don't drink milk otherwise . It is not to bad if you make it and cool it .

Have a nice day everyone .

lol No it's cow's milk Geru. It's just treated at ultra high temperatures so it keeps for much longer.

How exciting getting a new car Martha and a bonus you've sold the old one too. Enjoy.

I now have a new shower that's actually capable of heating a decent flow of water so I'm very happy. It's the small things in life that make a big difference sometimes.

Visitors have gone home now so I'm watching the memorial service and laying of the wreaths etc. and then hoping for a quiet afternoon.

♥️Hello everyone & Good morning♥️
We're going to have a clear sky again today. If there'd been precipitation it would have snowed. 1ºC right now.
I love crows. We used to get a huge flock gathering in our trees. They'd meet here then fly off to wherever it is that they sleep. The gathering would only last about a half hour and it was crazy noisy. I miss them. I have no idea why they changed their habit.
I used to have a cockatiel as a pet. That thing was so noisy that it drove me nuts every day  Laughing . I can't even imagine a whole flock of cockatoos  Shocked

Yup mighty nippy these days , 7c at noon , and getting colder it says .   I hear a woodpecker some place close around here almost  every late afternoon , we have lots and lots of trees here,  lately though racoons even slowly march across the street and climb the walls to get in to an attic some place I bet  they can do lots of damage  , unless of course the skinny old skunk  I have seen ,beats them to it  . Living with lots of trees around has it's good and bad points .

Elaine: Good morning to you , nice to see you again .  I made some chicken broth yesterday . lol , took to long if you asked me ,  what you get at the butchers is so expensive  , but it's better , has more gel to it , and that's the good stuff .. They tell me they actually use mostly the chicken feet , but you know you can't buy chicken feet ... I have tried .

Wendy:  Ok, I get it about the milk now, but there is no food value left in it I bet , the high heat kills just about everything including the vitamins ... but .... for emergencies it's good I guess .

My Sister's eye surgery went ok thanks.  I've yet to hear the details but at least it's over and done with now.

We too have loads of crows.  You would think that living so close to the sea we would also have loads of seagulls but they are few and far between.  I watched two robins fighting over territory a couple of weeks ago.  As you know they have their own territory and are very lone birds.  Do woodpeckers have their own territory too?  Wherever I have lived I've only ever seen one in my immediate area.

Way to go on the new car Martha.  I hope she last you a long time and is a good friend to you, lol.

I used to love baths, Wendy, but since living here and having this lovely shower of mine, it's so much quicker to just walk straight into a shower of water and wash.  I love it.  So pleased for you on getting your new one.

Now that the weather has got much colder I have my living room surfaces once again all full of half completed bits and bits that I am enjoying making and playing with.   Although I am going to have a good tidy up ready to start again.

The other advantage of a shower Sandy is that when the bathroom is freezing in winter I can stand under the hot water. I'd have to fill the bath to the top to stay warm. lol

My niece joined us for lunch yesterday because Riley (my sister's dog) was there and she was sorely in need of doggie cuddles. She's at that stage now where she wants another dog because she's missing Charlie so much but is never having another dog in her life. I know that feeling well.

I need to get some housework done this morning and then I'm going to my brother's this afternoon. It's very wet and windy out there so I'm hoping it improves a bit before I have to go out.
