Hi Dougie.  Nice to see you here again.  Thanks for the birthday wishes matie.

That's very true Wendy.  Although I'm happy to say that in these flats the bathroom is never freezing, for which I am very grateful for in my old age.  I've lived through all that in the past.

I tried to go without getting another dog after my Katie, after 2 years I gave in and got Bayley.  Then when he went I swore yet again not to get another.  2 years later, again I went and got Louie.  I mourned for both of those dogs for the whole 2 years for each of them and I was only able to stop mourning by getting another dog each time.  Louie will definitely be my last though as I will be far too old to look after another puppy by then.  Plus he or she would definitely out live me, and I wouldn't want that.

I've been sewing today.  I have decided to go back into long skirts.  I only went into trousers or rather jeans because I thought I would be riding my trike again.  Now I have a scooter instead there is no need to not wear my long flowing skirts.  I have almost finished the first one, and I have material to make a second.  I really can't get on with wearing trousers.

If Charlie hadn't popped in to put a shelf up in my cupboard under the emersion I would have finished the skirt completely today, but I was too tired this evening to finish off the waist band.  I will do that tomoz morning.

I've actually gone six years now after having three or four dogs for most of my life. I still miss having them but I don't miss the huge responsibility or the endless walks in awful weather. I would never get a puppy now. If I do succumb it'll be an old fogey from a shelter that plods at my pace. I don't think I'd have the patience or energy for a pup now.

Running late this morning. Windows Update made my computer hang yet again for over an hour. Drives me nuts. I'm a glutton for punishment though. Updating my laptop now. Less annoying though since I'm not trying to use it.

Not allowed to have a dog or any kind of pet , Apartments are not really suited for them anyways . To many accidents happened , big messes to clean up etc etc . I am allergic to all animal hair and dander , so that leaves me out anyways .  I see many cute dogs around here , proudly being walked by their owners who have their own homes . We have lots stores were you can buy anything from soup to nuts for your beloved doggy I tell you . Many many  dogs get treated better then people .

Weather is cool and wet, but sun is suppose to come out , lets hope so

Sandy:Hope you get your skirt finished to go for a ride with on your scooter soon .

Dogs are certainly hard work.  It's like constantly looking after a four year old, lol.

I did finish the skirt but I had to finish it by hand.

I did something really stupid.  I had my iron laying flat on the floor.  The night before I hadn't bothered to put my ironing board down because I knew I would be using it for my sewing the following morning, but I laid the cold iron on the floor so that Louie couldn't accidentally entangle himself in the lead during the night and pull the iron on his head and kill himself.

Next morning I started to do some sewing on the machine.  I plugged what I thought was the sewing machine in but instead I plugged the iron in.  It was only a handful of minutes before I noticed but by then the iron had burnt through part of the wire to the sewing machine and burnt my carpet.

I managed to save the iron by waiting until cold to scrape all the plastic wire off of it, but the carpet is sodded and I couldn't use the sewing machine.

Yesterday Charlie came in and took the sewing machine wire away to fix, thereby saving me £40 for a new one, and I am going to get a carpet chap in to take a small patch of carpet from under my bed and patch the burn.

So hence the sewing by hand until Charlie brings me back a repaired lead.

Ouch! I bet your language wasn't ladylike. I hope they can make the carpet blend in reasonably well. Time to add labels to the plugs? I doubt it's a mistake you ever make more than once though.

It's actually dry and sunny this morning. A pleasant change since it's been so dreary lately. Turning colder now though.

Nothing much I have to do today. A few chores this morning and then I can be lazy. I'm enjoying a quiet weekend with no visitors for a change.

Hi everyone.

Sandy, at least a fire wasn't started.
Glad you are ok.

Wendy, glad you had some sunny weather.
Ours was cold-cold today. But should warm up
by our holiday on Thursday, so they say.

Geru,
We could have a cat here, but no dogs allowed
in our apartment building.
My daughter takes care of foster dogs sometimes
until they find a forever home for them.

Hi Martha, Hi Elaine, Hi Dougie.

I'm going to my daughter's on the
American Thanksgiving holiday.
I'm going to bring two side dishes.

Hope everyone has a lovely rest of the day!

I've often considered fostering dogs Kerri but I'd be hopeless at parting with them, even knowing they were going to good homes. I get attached too easily. Your daughter is doing a good thing. Smile

Have a great time over the holiday. I hope the weather is kind for you too.

Nothing much happening here. Yesterday's lunch time get together was fun though. My nephew (the one who got married last month) came with his mum which is a rarity. I got to hear all about his honeymoon in California Well not all about it you understand. lol His sister showed up in her lunch break too. She was looking at a few pictures of dogs needing new homes. She's missing Charlie no end. I don't think she'll take the plunge for quite some time though. She got her doggie cuddles fix with my sister's dog for now.

Off to visit my brother later who will no doubt have something on his computer that needs "fixing".

Yes, I'm wearing the skirt today Geru.  Looks good and I will be making more as soon as Charlie brings back my sewing machine lead.

I am very grateful Kerri, because as you say, it could have been a lot worse if it had caused a fire.  Not something I will do again me thinks.  I can't believe I was stupid enough to have done it in the first place.

Let's hope she is strong enough to resist another dog Wendy.  It's very hard to do though.  My little shite is getting worse.  He has now discovered how to unmake the bed by nudging up the pillows, getting underneath and pulling the duvet out from under them so that he can get back in it.  So now I constantly have an unmade bed.

The other thing that has started happening is, I'm waking up with my face laying on his backside/hunches, where he has now taken to waiting until I'm asleep then nudging his way under my chin and pushing his back into my neck, thereby virtually making my face, neck and chest his bloody nest.  I don't even feel him doing it.

Weather is dry , mostly cloudy right now , 7c , rain in the forecast .

Nothing much new  today, changed the bedding , need to do some mending , things are falling apart here and there a bit , maybe laundry if I can manage .

Sandy: Congrats on finishing the skirt, happy wearing .   Cute story about Louie and how he sleeps lol, personally ....  I could not take that , Cats do that  it seems , they love to feel your body heat of the neck  .   Many a baby has actually died because of cats doing this .
Well, I bet Louie is happy that you don't mind Being his little nest as you say . .

Wendy: Enjoy the visit with your brother , bet he likes your visits with all that computer know how ...

Kerri:  Have a lovely Thanksgiving Holiday with family members .

Hiya Dougie Smile nice to see you pop in again.

Oh ouch Sandy! So lucky it didn't cause a fire indeed and how lucky are you that Charlie can fix the lead. What a treasure to have someone like him on stand by.

We've had Catherine & Dan's Engagement party last Saturday and it went fantastic. Good weather too for the backyard party and everyone was in a happy cheerful mood.

Having said all this, I am feeling so very low at the moment and have come crashing down after the party and feel that I need some help for that.
So today I'm going to talk to my GP and go from there.
My eldest daughter said she saw this coming for a while now and she was the one urging me to go and seek some help.

I'm just going to go with the flow and do whatever I feel like doing so please excuse me if I don't post much on the boards. (Never have felt so damn low as I do now) Sad

That's pretty funny Sandy and it's one of those irritating things that you miss so much when they're gone. It's odd how it's often their bad habits that cause the biggest gap in our lives. I used to have one dog who lay on each stair as I vacced them. I had to keep nudging her up a stair all the way up. It was so strange after she'd gone cleaning them in one go.

Glad the party went well Martha and you all had a good time. Sorry to hear how low you're feeling now though. When the crashes come they do seem to come with a vengeance. I hope you get some help and feel much better soon.

Amazingly no computer problems yesterday Geru. lol My #4 brother showed up too so I got to catch up with both of them at once.

I'm so sorry to read this Martha, although I am not one whit surprised.  I'm surprised you have held on so long before going on a real downer with what you've had to put up with your health.  I've not understood how you could seemingly have coped so well up until now.

I cope myself by my sewing, even if it is just silly bits, by my interest in Biblical studies thereby interest in documentaries, etc., and now having met Margaret has helped me tremendously.  Not that she knows at all about my emotional state but the fact I have someone to chat with about any nonsensical thang, go to the shops with and so on.

Like you are now, I also cope by just doing what I want when I want each day.  I don't think about how to keep occupied tomorrow etc, I do just get up and make the most of today.  I also tend to stay away from the web when I am low simply because at those times it feels like a chore, and I don't do chores now if I feel low.

Funnily enough we constantly hear people say cat's have killed babies, and yet, I've never in all my life read a report about, or know of anyone that knows anyone that has had a baby killed by a cat.

Great that the party went so well Martha.

It's there little idiosyncrasies that make them so much fun and so much company I think Wendy.  They can be entertaining little buggers even if they are irritating, lol.

Charlie has promised to have repaired my lead last night and is going to bring it back sometime today, so fingers crossed he's had time to do it.  I'm going to cut out some material today ready to make a start on tomorrow.

The weather is awful out there at the moment.  Freezing cold, high winds and pouring with rain, so I'm thankful that Louie is puppy mat trained, hates going out in this weather and much as I do, and that I don't have to go out at all today.  So he and I are going to have a lovely snug warm day in.

Hope Charlie will bring the lead around today, then you can sew till your heart's content again . You have a great way to keep entertained every day . Until then . you and Louie keep warm and dry inside today .

I was bored this morning and Charlie hadn't then brought my lead back so I played at making a no sew cushion cover with a couple of scraps of material.  Of course the moment I got the phone to take a photo Louie came along to be nosy and laid down in front of it just as I was snapping the photo.

Charlie brought my lead around late this afternoon.  So I now have material for a skirt all cut out ready to start sewing tomorrow.

You are more than welcome to use any quotes I might use.

I still go on the internet when I'm down, but usually only to find Youtube documentaries or other things of interest.  I just hate joining in things such as boards, Twitter and Facebook.  I will read on those but get too low to actually join in.

You calling my cushion a pin cushion made me chuckle.  I suppose it does look a little smalll in that photo.  It's actually 14" by 14" plus the 2" frill around it.  A little smaller than most cushions would be because the squares of material I had were too small to make full size 16" or 18" ones.  But it kept me occupied and big enough to chuck on my bed with the other cushions I have.

Hi everyone.

Wendy,
My daughter has a heart as big as the universe
when it comes to animals.
(And children and the elderly)
It is hard, the letting go, but she feels like
she is giving them much love, in the mean time
so they don't have to be locked up until
someone adopts them.

She used to work for a company
where she went into elderly peoples homes
and helped them.
She had clients who would ask,
"Can you be the one that comes
all the time?"
Because she was very kind and listened to them.

She had a woman who asked if she would turn
over her mattress.
It wasn't one of the things she was required to do,
but she did it for her.
Because the woman had no one else to do it
and it was important to the woman.
The family members would often tell my daughter
that their elderly parent loved her.

She went into another profession
but still would take on a client or two
at the end.
They were so sad when she had to quit for good.

Martha,
I understand the need to just take time out.
Sometimes the down lifts, sometimes we need
help to get it to lift.
Hugs to you.

Sandy,
Cute pillow and Louie with his little cuteness in front of it!

Hi Geru.
Hope it isn't too cold there.
We're actually supposed to warm up tomorrow
for our American Thanksgiving.
It might rain on Friday, though.

Have a lovely rest of the day everyone.

A Happy Thanksgiving to all our American friends. I hope you have plenty to be thankful for.

I think Louie sets the cushion of beautifully Sandy. lol! Glad you've got your lead back and working.

My sister and her daughter are both like that Kerri. One works in a residential care home and the other works for a private company that does home visits. She'll always do whatever needs doing rather than sticking to what she's required to do. I'm more of a dog person than a people person myself. I don't mind helping elderly people out occasionally but I couldn't do it as a job. Not enough patience and too unsociable.

We've gone from those strong winds and downpours that Sandy is getting to a frost and -1C this morning. Chilly but I much prefer it.

Sandy:  sorry I called your cushion a pin cushion ... lol, I should have taken a better look . I went by the fact that you mentioned you had scraps of material you used ... lol  . Nice job Sandy , and  the cushion and Louie are colour co-ordinated too.  So sorry again . I know Louie is a small dog, but not that small . so silly of me .
Ps, I don't bother with twitter and such either , but do listen to You tube ever so often, andTed Talks ,

Wendy; Get out the blankets and keep warm ,-1 is January weather here usually .

Now if Louie was that small it would be wonderful.  So much easier to carry him in a handbag.  Unfortunately now that he is a grown chappie he has gotten so much heavier, to lug physically around for more than a few mins at a time.

Although he may not have got heavier, I might have just got weaker after all my bloody sessions in hospital.  I don't seem to have any strength at all nowadays.  But Hey Ho!

Have to admit that my Grands are both the same as your Daughter Kerri.  They will bend over backwards to help anyone out.  Aimee especially.  Although as far as I am concerned I do get far more help and running around after me from Jess.

Bloody bitter weather here today for us.  Sunny but my it's so cold out there.

I bought myself a new coat.  A red duffle coat and wore it for the first time today.  My goodness the difference in warmth with that.  You really can't beat the old classics.

I'd actually love one of these cloaks

I actually kept my school duffle coat for decades Sandy because it was so warm. lol That cloak looks lovely but I think no sleeves would annoy me after a while. I like mu coats to have plenty of pockets too since I hate carrying a handbag everywhere.

Louie might be very cute pin cushion size but I'd worry about standing on him by accident!

It rained overnight and we're back up to 5C today. I have visitors coming for the next two weekends who keep their house so warm I'd pass out if I was there for long. They're in for a bit of a shock here. lol

I'm just back from grocery shopping and while the shop was fairly busy the roads were horrendous. Queues all the way there and back at every set of traffic lights and tailbacks at every roundabout. I dread to think what it will be like by Christmas.

Supposedly we are meant to get the Siberian winds across the country from Monday onwards.  So you might have to have the heating up anyway matie.

Our school winter uniform had to be a navy blue Melton coat.  They were so warm and smart as well.

I have lots to entertain me this weekend.  I want to clear out and sort the cupboard under the emersion tank as Charlie has added me a shelf in there so I can tidy it all up.

I also have at least 3 sewing projects waiting in a row.  Actually thinking of it, I have 4 waiting as I have plans to also tart up my summer hat in an 18th century style.

I watched Sense and Sensibility again the other night and I love Emma Thompson's hat she wore in that so I am going to attempt a modern copy.  I wont be making it as puffed out as she had it though.

Garlands were added for the wedding scene.

Wish me luck with it.

Good luck with making that Hat Sandy , it won't be an easy job . I do get a kick out of the different quotes you come up with  , yup !!

Love the new coat you got too , nice colour and material and warm too.
Hope the weather warms up for you . Not to warm here , 7c , but no wind at the moment .. Most get going my sisters email needs answering .
