Tara that is great news about your mum Smile Hope the re-hab goes well.

Elaine you sure got a lot of plumbs this year! Good for you preserving and making pies etc. Wish I lived closer and I would be over in a flash for some pie lol.

Sandy how lucky to have found your FiloFax! Gheez woman, start putting it into a handbag from now on. Smile Sorry to read you had to have the new glasses redone. Pain in the .... Lets hope this time they are ok and you can get on with it.

Hello to anyone I forget to mention.

It has been a trying time for me health wise so have not been on the computer much at all.
I can check FB on my mobile ph and of course WhatsApp and normal messages but I still don't like using my mobile to come onto the boards.

Not in the mood to repeat myself over my health issues as I posted about it on my own board.

Spring is in the air here Laughing and it has been so nice and warm during the day already.

Nothing planned today, other then trying to catch up on a few boards and then back to carefully sitting in my recliner and rest.

Must be the week for sorting out meds Sandy. I had to go and sort out a stuff up with mine yesterday. I usually just order them online but when the locum doc upped the dosage last time he forgot to list it as a repeat prescription. Glad your glasses are ready and you are lucky to have Jess even if you have to wait a couple of days this time.

Matt (daughter's partner) has only gone and got pneumonia after his surgery. They're hoping to come up this weekend but I think that might be pushing it a bit. I know how tough it can be to recover from pneumonia even when you're young and fit.

Nothing exciting happening here. Off to visit my eldest brother later but that's about it.

Jodie Whittaker is the new doctor Sandy and some of the diehards are still up in arms about the part being played by a woman.

Bloody heck, I thought with the care of nowadays it was virtually only the elderly at risk of pneumonia after surgery.  Poor bugger.  I hope he recovers quickly.

I had a follow up hospital appointment this morning.  Jess and I were in and out within half hour, which was unbelievable, so we had time to go and collect my glasses afterwards before Jess needed to get to work.  The upgrade (so far) seems to have been well worth it.

Martha matie, I hope you soon start feeling your old self.

As for Doctor Who, then it seems they have now ruined yet another British classic progamme due to political correctness.  How bloody ridiculous.  They do this to attract a new audience but at the same time they lose the old.

Someone upstairs must like you Sandy. That's the fastest hospital appt I've heard of and great that it meant you could get your specs earlier too. Don't overdo it on the screens until you adapt to them and hopefully the migraines will stay away.

Yesterday was a lovely sunny day. A bit chilly for September but better than all that wind and rain. It's very grey and dreary this morning but still dry so far. I'm doing laundry and other mundane chores today.

PostSubject: Re: Autumn Chatter   26/09/18, 10:22 am

Well, seemingly her previous appointment didn't turn up so I was called in as soon as I arrived.  30 mins with her and then out of the building again.  Wouldn't it be wonderful if it always worked like that.  Mind you, I have to say that Bournemouth hospital have mostly been very efficient compared to other hospitals I have had to attend.

On Monday I popped in and joined the "Big House" again.  As in joined the community association.  Yesterday they started a new beginners class of ballroom dancing, so I decided to go over and join that too.

I was very surprised at the turn out for it.  However, it wasn't very successful for me.  I had been told by the organisers on Monday that a lot of singles turn up for ballroom so I didn't need to bring a partner.  Turned out that wasn't quite how it worked out.  Everyone brought someone else, even if it was just a female friend, except me and an old boy.

So naturally this old boy and I were partnered off.  I have seen this chap (Bill) around the site, including the dining room often.  Now, I  really am not lying when I tell you, that he is 98 or 99.  A tiny little man that can barely totter/shuffle along when walking, let alone dancing.

It was the most awful experience of my life trying to dance with him.  He pulled me in so tight to him and was breathing unbelievably heavily into my face all the time and I was virtually having to hold him up so that he didn't fall over.  During half time, the people I was sitting with to have a cup of tea, said to me, that it was terrifying watching him in case he fell over.

Not only that but there was absolutely no way possible to learn/practice the steps as he simply shuffled from side to side just to stay upright.  20 minutes in and I was so stressed, feeling so sick with revulsion at having him constantly breathing into my mouth that I just wanted to run out of there.  After having a cup of tea in the tea room I didn't go back in for seconds so to speak.  I just came home.

This was the 2nd time over the years that I have tried to join a ballroom dancing group and both times haven't worked.  Whatever anyone says, people always bring a friend or partner with them.  If one is single it's a useless group to join.  I am so disappointed as all my life I have wanted to learn to ballroom dance.

Today I am going to ring up the woman that runs a T'ai Chi class and also see if they still have a country dance group over there.  If they do, I will have a go at both of those.  Although both of those are in their monthly news letter, it doesn't mean that they haven't been dropped before being published.

Sandy: Well, what a* Big House * Ballroom dancing  story .... lol , i laughed and laughed . It sure seems familiar  Smile , I have tried it all before ..... .  There is a single 's club in town for older folks , and one man told me , don't even go, ... there are 50 women to one man there ...... OMG , of course I did not even try there, wonder why ... lol .

Then they have dancing every second Sunday here at the * Big House * for +50 group , and it's the same there .  It says no partner needed , but yup , they all bring some one , and yes, even another women.   Well, I am not doing that ,and that's that !! Laughing........

Tried the line dancing thing , thought that looked like fun , you need no partner ....great , but you need to know all the steps , and you need to be able to understand the caller too, so I took lessons .... lol , lol, what a joke . It said * For Beginners*  I paid my fee for 15 sessions , and went 3 times  . The teacher stood facing us , and says , just follow me  dance   LOL, turns out I was the only beginner at this, they all knew all the steps  , I felt absolutely foolish , I am a good dancer at the regular stuff, this was new to me  , it looks so easy , but everyone has to keep with the proper steps at the same time for it to go properly .

Square dancing is another one going on around the province , they travel around , great fun I guess, but not for me , lol, those callers all  speak hokus pokus .lol  What ?  what ? what ? I think in places folks do this all of their lives  from the time they are young

T'ai chi Class ???   well, that might be interesting Sandy  , patients needed  I think , I have only watched it on TV , let us know how that goes if you join .

Sandy, your story is soooooo funny , I can just see it .

Whisper: I need to join in with the mundane chores today .

Oh dear Sandy and Geru. Not very successful attempts at dancing clubs for either of you. I haven't tried anything like that since I was a kid and having read your accounts I won't be trying it any time soon either.

T'ai chi is something I would have tried a few years ago but the local club closed and I was too lazy to travel for a class. Three of my nephews who lived in Hong Kong for several years used to do it at school every morning before lessons. Fingers crossed the class is still running Sandy. No partner required.

Yeah, although I love being on my own with no man tied around my neck, being single does have it's drawback sometimes.

I also fancied line dancing at one point, but never actually tried it.   I did join a T'ai chi class many, many years ago, and did very much enjoy the 2 or 3 times I went.  Unfortunately the class was held in a stable in the middle of a farm out in the country.  It was the middle of winter, cold and dark, paying for taxis and waiting in the freezing darkness for the taxi home to pick me up was no fun.  So I quit with that venture, lol.

Today it's rather chilly out there so it's just quick walks with Louie and then most of the day in the warm watching DVDs me thinks.

Loved the dancing stories.

I'm hetero-sexual but have danced with many women
when men didn't want to dance.

Martha,
Hope you feel better re your health issues.

I've been doing autumn cleaning projects
one at a time.

Take care,

Yup, women have always had to often dance with other women.  I always took the male role when rock and rolling back in the 60s at the school dances.  There were never enough boys to go around.  At tea dances too, there are always more women than men.

I had a rotten night simply because I fell asleep on the sofa early evening and therefore was wide awake most of the night.  I ended up with cups of tea and watching tele for 2 to 3 hours from 4am before falling asleep again at about 6.30am.

I'm just going to plod through the day today without putting much thought into it.  I've got washing in the washing machine, and that could possibly be the only thing I do today that could be called housework, or I might end up scrubbing through the whole place.  I wont know until I see how I feel after my late shower which I am just about to have.

some  clouds ,some sun , 18c,that feels like 20c, light  rain for tomorrow  is forecast .

Hello to Sandy , Elaine , Whisper, and Kerri, nice to see you .

No  , dancing with women is not my cup of tea, I did try at the club  once  lol! lol! never again
I learned my lesson the hard way, this women just about knocked me off  my feet , I wanted to ask her if she thought I was a horse .... lol  , she was super duper forceful .

Dancing is an art , it takes tact and sensitivity  , and you need to tune in to your partners rhythm . I let the man lead, but lots of times  he is not able to lead , we stumble and falter and him and ha , then I very gently see if he is able to  follow my lead  . Lots of time this works very well, but other times it can be a total disaster ,  oh dear .    Laughing Don't get me wrong , I am not a perfectionist  .

Dancing the new way is much easier, you don't touch at all , and away you go , doing your own thing  most of the time .
There now  , must get some work done now ,  have a great day everyone .

Well, I'm all caught up on all the mostly unimportant things I had to do today lol!
It's been a nice weekend so far. Kind of spooky dark all day today but I thought it looked and felt kind of mysterious Smile
Now I just need to decide what TV show to binge on or a movie or 2 to watch from bed. Roomie is out at the pub this evening. We figured out an inexpensive and safe way for him to get from here to the pub and back and so now I don't have to worry about him killing anyone or himself, no matter how much he drinks or how late he stays out.
Hello back Geru!
It sounds like it just started raining here so I need to go make sure everything on the deck is situated under parts of the roof that don't leak.
♥️ Enjoy your evening! ♥️

I had a nice long visit unexpectedly from Aimee today.  Animated and interesting conversation, as it usually is with her.  We can get through so many subjects as she, like me, is interested in so many subjects.  She knows her onions too as she is well read.

I also sorted out my box of wires and such, and found all sorts of things.  Like some old memory sticks from years ago with family photos on.  A 20 odd year old reel of film I'd never had developed (will put that in for developing and see what comes out, if anything).  A computer lead I thought I had lost and would have to buy a replacement, and lots of other interesting bits and pieces.

I've also put my old iphone 4 back to factory settings so that I can give it to my Sister Barbara as she has only got a really old cheap phone that just literaly makes phone calls.

Oh and I played at setting up a new Filofax.

Its feeling chilly here, and wet , lightly raining  , lots of leaves coming off the trees and making a mess here and there .
Having a lazy day , did up  my budget , balanced my check book  , etc etc .
Had a nice catch up chat with my sister  , who lives far away in another province , so we don't get to see much of each other. She does have a daughter living not to far from me here, so ever so often we do get to visit .

Looks like more rain for tomorrow , best get my rain gear ready .

That must have been fun Sandy. Finding old photos is always interesting and who knows what might develop from that film. Great that you and Aimee find so much to talk about too.

You've just reminded me Geru that I need to sort out my monthly spreadsheet and pay my credit card bill. September ran away from me so fast and with weekend visitors I forgot all about finances.

I really need to get some cleaning done upstairs this morning too. Lunch with sis later so I better kick myself into gear.

Yeah, Sunday turned out to be quite a productive day for me for a change.  I've put that roll of film I found in my handbag so that if by chance at some point I get to big Tescos I wont forget to put it in for processing.  It might be far too old for them to get anything off of it but it's worth a try I think.  There should be some photos of Jess when she was a baby on it if it works as that was the last time I remember using that camera before I bought a new digital one and before smart phones.

Aimee and Jess have invited me out to lunch today at Jessie's place of work.  I've never been out there as it's out in the country and never had cause to go out that way.  Jessie's fella Adam also works there and he will be joining us during his lunch break hour.  A very nice lad that one is.  Jess wants me to take Louie with us, but I'm not sure I will.

Although he is fantasic with people if there happens to also be another dog around it wont be a very peaceful Lunch for me.  Taking a reactive dog anywhere is bloody hard work sometimes.

I did have a collar for him that sprayed a strong smelling citrus spray if he barked which stopped him in his tracks.  It was perfect.  Unfortunately the refilling part of it broke.  I looked for another one, but they are now charging £65 for them, which is a ridiculous price.  So I had another idea.

You can now buy blow up ring collars that you put on a dog to stop them chewing at stitches after an operation.  They look much more comfortable than the normal old fashioned hard plastic collars.  I'm thinking, that just by having that around his neck might distract him from lunging and kicking up a fuss at other dogs.  They are only a few pounds so thought I'd try one of those.  You never know, it might work.

Hopefully he will be feeling so sorry for himself that he wont pay attention to other dogs.  Of course I wont have it for this afternoon's lunch, but it's worth a try for the future.

I did try a muzzle on him once but because of his tiny muzzle he can pull it off within 15 seconds.  Also with a muzzle people would think him vicious and stay away from him, and his main joy in life is the fuss he gets from people when out on his walks.

Good morning all Smile Just read up on all the dancing stories and oh dear me, Sandy I would have declined dancing with that 99y old man.
I love dancing but like you and Geru have given up on joining any classes for the same reasons.
These days I dance when the opportunity arises but that's about it.

Glad to hear the new glasses are working well for you Sandy. Fingers crossed this helps with all the eye drama/migraines you've had.

You know I've still got photo films from an old camera laying around here that never got developed. Hmmm I wonder if I should try and see if any photo's come out of those.

I'm of this morning for some more tests and then on Friday the stitches in my back finally come out and I will be able to have a normal shower again ... yayy.
Feeling heaps better with just the odd twitch here and there so all is healing well.

Sandy I too have been working on some ideas for the filofax/organiser and I'm thinking of getting stuck into that and see how it pans out.
I miss the days of designing web-pages and the thrill and fun that came with it.

Spring weather is a mix at the moment with still cold mornings where the heater comes on to take the chill out of the house.

I've had some drama's with a male friend lately and have had to block him from calling me. Now I get heaps of private numbers calling me ... lol ... not answering those.
"Funny" how everything goes nicely when things go their way but the moment you put your foot down all hell breaks loose!

Ok I better get ready to go out. Have a great week everyone Smile

You all sound so busy doing interesting things and I have nothing to write about really. Enjoy your lunch Sandy whether Louie joins you or not. Those collars do look much nicer than the ones my dogs used to get from the vets. Whenever one of them wore one the others would hide. They hurt when they catch you.

Good to hear you're healing well Martha and I bet you can't wait for those stitches to come out. Your "friend" doesn't sound like much of a friend. One of the fair weather variety I assume.

I've done some cleaning downstairs and am off to my brother's later if he gets back from a hospital appointment reasonably early. Yesterday was mostly sunny until late afternoon but with a chilly wind. Slightly milder today but of course it's raining.

Happy belated Birthday Elaine.  I hope you had a really great day.

I too miss those days of playing with the innards of the old Yuku boards and especially the profiles.  Once Yuku closed down I lost all of my zest for playing at designing.  Yuku certainly was great fun.

I thought of you Martha while sorting out all my Filofax bits, wondering if you might too get the urge to have another play.

Although I have been thinking about trying out setting up a Travellers Notebook, just for fun.  More and more people have got the bug for those now and there are some terrific ideas out there coming from those creative type.  You know, the ones that one envys for their creativity and hate at the same time because one hasn't got a creative bone in their own body, lol.

But, there is no way I am going to spend a fortune on something that I might only play with for 5 minutes and then never use.  So I'm going to make my own notebook cover for a few pennies, add the various cheap notebooks I'll get from the stationers, have a play with it, and then see where I go from there.  If it works out I'll make a video of it afterwards.

I couldn't help but to chuckle at your "problems" you are having with the male friend.  I can't wait to hear the new instalment of it all when we next chat.  Lol.  I know, I'm mean, laughing, but sorry matie I just can't help it.

I had a lovely couple of hours with the girls and Adam yesterday.  I must say that she does work in a lovely environment, but then seemingly it is their flag ship camp for the whole of the country.

Also something really good came out of that visit.

While Jess was ordering the food I nipped to their reception to ask if their sites allowed outsiders to sign up for yearly membership and use the facilities.  I was thinking about how there is one of their swimming pools right on my doorstep.  The answer was yes.  But as I was chatting to the woman, Adam came and stood beside me and joined in the chat.  The woman "Margaret" asked "Are you related?" so we explained that it was Jess that was my Granddaughter.  Instantly Margaret said, "Why are you going to pay for membership?  Just use Jessie's staff pass" - She can bring in as many family members as she wants." -  I then explained that it would be their camp right on my doorstep I would be wanting to use and therefore Jess wouldn't be with me when I used it.  She said, no worries, just take Jessie's staff card with you when you go.

So when I got back to the table I told Jess what she had said, and Jess without hesitation said she never knew she could do that, and no problem as she never has to show her staff card anyway, and she handed it over to me directly.  You can use that staff card in any of their camps you see.

So it's not only saved me the price of a yearly membership, but it's also saving me the price of swimming or any other facility that I might want to use.  If anyone questions me about it, I've just been told to say that I work in housekeeping at the other site.  Not that anyone is going to question it as the card does not carry a photo or any staff information.  It just says, Team Member and has a staff number on it.

It will literally take me no longer than 10 mins, to cross the field, up the steps on the camp and then walk to the swimming pool.  My word, I'm so excited.

Oh other news too.  As you know I have been out a few times on my trike again.  However I am finding that my balance (probably through stress) is not good perched up on the saddle.  I am also finding it really uncomfortable now to sit on a saddle where my insides are concerned.  Basically I'm not enjoying the experience of cycling anymore as I was.

Soooooo, Charlie, myself and girls have been chatting about it and all agree that perhaps I should get a road worthy mobility scooter instead to get me to and fro the few miles I need to travel with my own transport.

Now the good news is, Charlie has an old scooter for me "FREE" - When people die here or go into nursing homes, if the family don't want the old scooters and ask the office to get rid of them for them, Charlie takes them and stores them in companies storage until they can be got rid of.  It doesn't happen often that there is one in there but it seems like fate that there just happens to be one sitting in there now, along with the fact it's also a road worthy one.

Now that he is back from holiday he is going to take it to his home, check it out, service it, see if it needs new batteries or such and then if all is ok it will be mine.  If I get on with it and like using it, I will start saving for a newer one, along with selling my trike.

It wont be as fast as cycling and will add a few (5 or 10 mins) onto the longer journeys I do, but as I'm never in a hurry to get anywhere that wont be a problem, along with it also still being quicker than catching the bus.  I haven't seen Charlie since him being back to work so don't know if he has made a start on checking it out yet though.
